I have just purchased a 2820 along with the Garmin bike mount.

The question is what is the best way of mounting the bike mount to my bike?

I presume I need to buy another bracket? :nenau

It's a 1150 GSA

Cheers in advance,

Dave

The Garmin motorcycle mounting bracket for the 2xxx series of GPSRs has four holes in it that correspond to an industry-standard bolt pattern for attaching to various retention mechanisms.

What you will need to do is purchase some kind of clamp that attaches to (most likely) your handlebars, and a short arm, and a bracket that matches up to the bolt pattern on the Garmin part. Most of us use products that are made by RAM Mount - they are well constructed and not too expensive.

One of the regular participants on this forum is a reseller of RAM mounting parts, he will probably notice this post in the next day or so and provide you with some additional guidance.

It might also be possible for you to buy the required parts from BMW, because the bolt pattern on your Garmin bracket is the same as the bolt pattern on the BMW Motorcycle Navigator bracket. So, perhaps consult with the accessories people at your motorcycle dealership to find out what options you have in that respect.

Whatever you do - mount the thing on the centerline of the motorcycle, not off to one side. It is much safer to have it mounted on the centerline, because that way, you won't generate unwanted steering inputs when you push the buttons on the GPSR.

Thanks Pan

Thanks for that info, I will pop along to my local stealer next week when I get the chance, and order a mount.

I am very impressed with the unit, and even the wife loves it when using it in the car.

From what you say, I assume you have the Garmin 010-10495-00 kit with cradle and the power & audio lead. To attach onto the 1150GSA , there are several options, The Garmin mount needs a RAM round base (RAM-B-202) to locate on their cradle four hole fix pattern, plus arm RAM-B-201 and RAM-B-231Z. As a mount kit, I would buy the earlier SPIII mount kit as it has all main parts, so RAM-B-149Z-G1.

then again, there is also the Migsel speed bracket to which you add RAM-B-201-A with RAM-B-202.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek, Mr Pan, you're not supposed to be using the buttons when you're on the move, not least because it will normally involve taking your eyes off the road.

So all I need to order is part number RAM -B-149z-G1 ???

Where is the best place to order, and how much?

Thanks.

That rule only applies in America, where it has now been made federal law (under the Patriot Act or some other **** like that, and violators are subject to multiple lawsuits as well as a 30 year prison sentence.

In Europe, thank God (well, on the Continent, anyway) adults are still assumed to be responsible for the results of their own decisions and actions.

Missing Spring?

OK,
I bought the RAM mount, however while fitting it the whole thing came apart and I'm not sure if I have lost a spring from inside.
Should there be 1 or 2 large springs inside?
I then thought if there was 2, one may have been in my bike, so tried to tilt the bike over and see if anything came out. Managed to drop the bike....but no damage :bow Thank god for engine bars :thumb

So how many springs on the mount?
(can't remember it's part number, 149z or whatever is written above.

Edit: RAM-B-149z-G1

Thanks for that inf RAM man.
It was dark and I had my garage (not the tidiest in the world) upside down incase one had dropped, as it looked as if a spring could fit on the other side.
