Have read all recent posts on various screens, but has anyone tried fitting 1100r type handlebar screen? I,m 6`2" and find std. screen the pits.A friend gave me a harley after market screen which I fitted on bars, its a slight improvement but stilltoo short. If i lower my head by about 3" it works great. It would seem that a similar but larger screen would work great.anybody tried similar?

a car.......

Without having a wall of plastic similar to something out of "chips" we are all doomed to some kind of wind problem (if you know what I mean). The only other option is a car I'm afraid.

There is no aesthetically pleasing answer to this question.

make the standard screen abit better

Hi all,

I've had my 02 GS since last november and have spent most of the time trying to get past 70mph without having my head buffeted. I have looked at most of the available aftermarket jobbies as well as the standard Adventure screen [£130 inc. all fittings required] but was not convinsed by just 'bigger is better'.

I have finaly took the plunge and have cut the lip off the standard GS screen- This took about an hour and now - sorted as fast as you want and none of the old shake you head 'till you can't see anymore business, best of all it cost now't but your time[with a steady cutting hand]:D :D :D :D

Cheers

You've hit the nail on the head. It seems you either reduce the screen size (of the standard screen) OR you go for the wall of plastic (the Aeroflow). Everything in the middle in just buffet city (and I don't mean sandwiches and sausage rolls).

Got a picture/photo you could post. Would like to see how it looks.

So cutting the screen blade down works. But could you tell is What seat height you use, your height, what position the screen is, and exactly how much of the screen was removed.
I have experienced the screen but it was on a demo bike and could not fiddle with it. But as soon as my GS arrives i will be out there doing some fine tuning of the screen which happily involves loads of riding as well.

I've met 2 people with cut down screens and they both swore by them.

The cut was not quite as drastic as Hedgehog's; just the lip had been removed still leaving a curved top to the screen. I've been tempted to try it but I'm too inept!

I took the plunge and cut the top inch or so from the top of a standard screen about a year ago.
My method: scribe a line at desired height and blend in to the sides of the screen, take a long swig from a bottle of Jameson's switch on the jig saw and go for it!
I ALSO, wait for it, removed the screen mountings and using an electric drill as a router extended the adjusting slots so that the screen tips back much further ie. close to the plastic thingy behind the screen.
What the hell, if your that unsatisfied with the screen as standard what harm can be done?
Results: not perfect but better. Looks the Dog's B's. I'm 6'1' seat up.

Hi all
I bought Paul Wakfields Givi which works very well for me and even better with the seat at full height and yet I'm only 5' 9'' and a bit wet through.
I cut the curved lip off the taller screen for my pan european of yester year with excellent results and I am tempted to do the same with the Givi I use a ceramic saw (hand) and masking tape to both sides of the surface to be cut it works well if a little slow but I am open to any other suggestions.

wot i did

just to let you know, I cut off the top 4cm off the standard screen with a slow speed setting on an electric jigsaw. I also think that the seat height [standard-low] and height above seat [101cm] are useful, 'cos there is a short bloke at work with one of the slower blue'n'white jobbies who dosent have any problems.

Have you also tidied up the bottom part of the screen - looks nicely contoured and shaped-off ?

Does it really cut down the buffeting ? (can you sense the desperation in my note ?)

the buffet

Alex,
the buffeting has not been eliminated, but for my use I can quite happliy reach an alleged 90mph and cruise without being jealous of all the cars and their fangled screens - definately an improvement 'cos anything above 65mph was abit painful after a few miles

cheers

Hi Guys,

Just joined the club and thought I could add a word or two here.

I bought a Givi screen for my 1150.

Works well in the lowest position for me. No more flies on my shoulders and makes ton cruising easy (doesn't stop the fuel going down to less than 35 though and it's still as loud as f*** but then again most screens are).

Around 70 notes or so I think.

Cheers
