Am I right in saying that the NEW sertao/ g650gs is the exact same engine as the 04-07 twin spark single ?

Same rotax designed engine but made elsewhere (china?) with less power.

No, no, no, it's painted a different colour and they've changed the crank cases. I believe there's also a re-routed oil pipe, which helps access to the clutch, or whatevers under the left hand cover. The electronics have been changed to knock a couple of horses off and also increase mpg.

This is definitely not the case.

If you look here you can see part numbers for the two engines.

Look for instance at the camshaft / decompression valve lift assemblies and you will see that most parts are different. Which could be why the new model has starting issues and the old model doesn't.

I'm finding checking the numbers a bit confusing as all the pictures are the same, but as you say the part no's are different. All the pictures appear to be of the original 93 engine. However if you check the part numbers on the crankshaft and connecting rod you'll see that there are different part numbers for the woodruff keys and they are not actually going to be any different. The new numbers may just be due to a different source.
