The wife had finally seen the light, and is getting rid of her YZF R6, for a 650GS.
So what should we be looking out for. What i mean is,is there anything that is known to go tits up on them!!
This will be her 5th bike in 2 years, so now getting a bit cheesed off with fitting her out.
ANY input would be grand. Ta

Not much really, they're pretty bullet proof. Some people seem to get through steering head bearings although my 05 dakar with 14k miles is fine. Corrosion on engine casing (although again mine's fine). A very few older ones have been know to have gearbox niggles - that's about it.

You might want to ask/have a look over on f650.co.uk or on the US site f650.com.

HTH :)

Hi Dansin, H here of nandh.
I have looked at pretty much everything now over the wk end and am definately gonna go for the f650gs but would love to be able to get the dakar replica (dakar way too tall for me), can you tell me if bmw still produce the 650gs dakar replica as I have looked everywhere but all the new gs's just say red, black or silver

Regards

H :D

Unfortunately it's a standard GS or a Dakar.

As far as seat heights go the standard GS is available with 3 seat heights - 750mm (low), 780mm (standard) and 820mm (high).

The Dakar is available with 2 seat heights - 830mm (low), 870mm (standard).

I'm 6 foot and 12 stone, with the preload set halfway I'm pretty much on tip toes on my Dakar.:D

You could always buy a standard GS, stick a 21" front wheel on and have it painted:thumb

Daniel

Paint it!...oh no couldnt do that to a new bike, good idea but not for me mate. I am only five foot 5 so the standard dakar is not an option unfortunately.
I have just heard back from bmw in London that not only is there to be a new 800gs that I did know about but they are also bringing out a new F650gs that I had no idea about, has anyone got any sneaky previews of what either of these will look like.
Chap said will probably be shown at the NEC in November but that is way too long to wait :D

I think i'd be tempted to wait awhile before buying an entry level BMW there seems to be few new models on the way, which in turn should mean savings on end of line old models.

Have you had a look at the 650 cross country?

A smaller GS?

800Adv (4).jpg This came from a recent French magazine - the 800GSA (perhaps!?)

They look good but.....

....if you are currently riding a 1200GS the 800's do feel a bit cramped and uncomfortable.

If you get in touch with Dakar Gal I believe she has a lowered Dakar, she may be able to help you further. It's something to do with 'Kouba links' but I've no idea what that is! :D

Daniel

umm, Kouba links :nenau . All sorted today, if all goes to plan and sort out my insurance tomorrow should be one proud owner of a new deep black 650gs on Saturday :bounce1.....er, now over to nick to get us there :augie

Have you got it?, if so, you'll have to pop round to see Karen and myself, we'd like to see it, and pass on some info that we found useful when Karen had one (or two in fact)

Well, here it is, my new toy! Collected yesterday from Vines. Went out today with my nieghbour and her new MT-03 (pictured below) and was so pleased with the response of the gs, excellent handling and I am sure it was made for our rough island roads, a lot smoother than on the R6 where I would feel all the bumps and road defects, so glad I made the decision....just roll on next wk end when I can go out again :D

Isle of Wight roads

I used to commute from St.Lawrence, near Ventnor to East Cowes on a 1946 G3 Matchless - the first one sold in Brighton after the war. The main similarity to yours is that it was all black. That was in 1953 I now realise so surely the roads have improved? (No rear suspension then.)

Poppin Up

Hey Gavin, Nick said that you had posted here somewhere, get a dry evening & I will pop up on the new toy, if both of you are about at that time that is, let me know when is best ok, hope you are not gonna burst my bubble with your info on them, but any info is valuable, thanks. :( :)

Brian, our roads are still like tracks !!

Sorry H, we missed you and Nick by minutes, our neighbour said "two Bm's were here about 3 minutes ago", we were walking the dogs around the castle, it was a nice evening for a ride though.

Yes, I was hoping your neighbour would mention that we did pop up. Sorry we were a bit earlier than expected as it was a nice evening so we had arranged to pop out with our neighbours on their bikes to Shanklin for a ride, a handful turned out down there.
We are in most evenings so if its easier for you to come to ours that is fine if not we will try and catch you both another evening ok, maybe we will leave it til about 6ish next time, wot ya reckon, up to you ??

Just to tease you:
