New BMW G 650 GS Sertão

Should I buy...????

Hi folks - I'm new on here and felt I should investigate the Sertao before I buy...
Good - interesting points on this thread and I agree with some of the items brought up. I have sat on the Sertao in the shop, but could only ride the demo - ordinary GS650. The Sertao is a really good price at £6,735.00. But the one in the shop already has an alarm fitted and an accessory plug which is extra. If I buy they will fit an electronic chain oiler for £75.
I wish they's made the ABS an option - I would not have wanted that really, and it adds a few kg's.
The pannier brackets are £82.50 + VAT, panniers are 169.17 each + VAT and the lock kit is £49.50 + VAT.
Not sure what a top box costs.

The Sertao comes with a larger screen and heated grips + bash plate + hand guards as standard.

The leaflet states that you can get a BMW main stand - I'd prefer one! And engine bars...

I really enjoyed riding the GS650, and yes I agree the engine sounds a bit naff before you move off. On fast roads I thought it was amazing for a single - much smoother than I imagined and on back lanes it seemed really happy, bimbling along! I'm looking at running it along side my 950 KTM Adv and then decide about selling the 950 later - if I can live without it.... Fuel economy, weight and keeping my speed moderated are all in mind here. BM seems to really make economy a prioity.

Thanks for really good info! And hope I've not rattled on too much!
I'm off to do a lot of thinking.... it's ISA invest or a new BM???? :bounce1
Cheers!

Hi Col,

You couldcheck out www.F650.co.uk as there's a lot of new information about the new Sertao aswell as the G650GS.

There's have been a few problems with 'hot starting' some of the 'G' bikes but other than that many owners are very happy with their new bikes!

I'd definately have one and it fits much better than the standard G.....Have you ever heard one of these bikes with a Remus or Scorpion exhaust?

Thanks FP

Good stuff FP.
Not heard them with Scorions etc fitted. Wonder if Fuel Exhausts of Cumbria will do them eventually... I like their Ti silencers on my KTM - light and not too loud, and cool fast.

Just been chatting with a dealer and price looks just right - they are going to give me the alarm and acc's plug for free - they've already been fitted. And a small discount on the panniers.
I was considering Hepco & Becker pannier rails etc and keeping my Hepco & B' Gobi panniers. But the Varios look quite good and strong enough. Will decide later today I think.
Cheers
Col

PS - the hot starting is something to do with a "valve lifter" - exhaust cam or soemthing like that. My mate in Manchester had that problem and it was solved with a replacement cam I think. It seems it gets worse as the engine beds in, as compression rises slightly and the starter can't cope.

Purchase of a new Sertao is arranged...

The deed is done! Deposit on and next Saturday will go finalise the job.. Ordered the vario panniers. But will fit 'em myself.
Price includes the alarm and acc's plug.

Am going to fit my Givi top case adapter - see if it fits ok. And add a chain oiler when possible.
Then in a few months will decide whether to keep the KTM 950 or not, or just mothball it.

Very exciting!:bounce1

Excellent.....!

It's a great wee bike and good on fuel too......! The hot start thing is only on a few bikes and we could all do without it(Mrs P's hasn't had the fault so fingers crossed)

We have Touratech panniers on our G650GS and an alloy ADV topbox aswell as a load of other stuff but I must admit I do like the Dakar...I mean Sertao:blast

G-Man!

Looks like i'll be riding a G650GS Sertao aswell!:thumb

Went to see the new F800GS Adventure at Motorrad Central Scotland a few weeks and after having a 'wee' chat with the salesman I finally ordered a new G650GS Sertao...........! I also put my 'winter' Suzuki DR350SE up for sale after deciding on a new 'G' and it was sold in less than four hours for the full asking price and was collected the next night and ridden home 100 miles to Newcastle.

There are some good deals on G650GS Sertao's at the moment and mine cost less than Mrs P's standard G650GS FL(factory lowered) with ABS and heated grips did in 2011 when the bike was launched.

The Sertao already comes with hand guards, a taller screen, a bash pate, spoked wheels aswell as heated grips and ABS.

Looking forward to many winter miles on the new Sertao!:thumb

They do look nice - but having had a Dakar I wonder if they'd the same

Surprised you didn't go for something different like a Challenge

I wanted something with longer legs for the road and X Challenges are always a challenge to find.........They're not cheap either!:blast

Sertao will go very nicely alongside Mrs P's G650GS too!:thumb
