Interestingly he lives in Melbourne and I have his two most recent BMW books. Original BMW Air-Cooled Boxer Twins and The BMW Story (Production and racing motorcycles from 1923 to the present day). This one is a Haynes publication, whilst the first is a Motorbooks International (MBI)
I've read both and find that the second one is very interesting as some of the information is printed for the first time in English anywhere in the world.
The picture on page 3 which is a R60/5 belongs to a very close friend and the site the photo was taken is where we all go to take these kinds of pistures of our bikes, which is about 3 Klm's from my place.
Pages 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 are bikes that are owned by one person and all of the shots were taken in his backyard, they are registered and go on the road.
The R100RS on page 57 & 58 is the only one I know of that the owner bought it when it came out with the 1½ seat and he's kept that seat on since. His wife to my knowledge has never been on the back of that bike.
Page 94 the picture of the R80 G/S rear wheel actually shows the second model rear wheel. The first model only had one brake lining inspection hole and the wheel was held in place by bolts, not studs with retaining nuts.
One unfortunate aspect of the book is that it's in imperial measurements to appease the American market. If they could have included some of the more important measurements in metric in brackets it would have been a help, after all the original measurements were in metric and the imperial sizes given are not always that accurate.
Mick.
