New chip for a dead data card?

Is there anyone out there who could fit a new chip into a dead data card?
One of my 128mb cards died. I got a free replacement from Garmin but I've still got the old one. It would be nice to have it fitted with a 512mb chip.

In theory you could get the faulty chip replaced. I believe Garmin use a non-standard formatting tho.

Also, both the unit firmware and Mapsource need to recognise the size and I believe they will only recognise up to 256MB (for the new Garmin cards).
