Looking for a way out
For those (like me) seriously unimpressed with the volume of the 20s with Bluetooth devices, there may be hope!

Change made from version 1.1.1 to 1.2
  • Increased audio volume for intercom, music and Bluetooth Audio Recording
  • Improved multi-way intercom reliability
  • Audio Boosting option
  • Headset battery meter for iPhone
  • Advanced Noise Control™ On/Off capability
  • Voice command triggering by Ambient Mode button
  • Bug fixes and improvements

I've installed by not tested yet

Thanks Jimbo.

I just received two replacement 20S units this afternoon (1408's to replace my 1406's) and updated the firmware. Thankfully the hardware change seems to have solved my issues with using in-ear monitors which was my main gripe, about to start testing the new features and see if the FM radio works, audio levels etc etc.

I'm pleased to say that my new Sena 20S units with 1408 serial numbers and V1.2 firmware are superb (the last ones should be destroyed by Sena, they were pants):

The audio quality is now spot on. Audio levels can go all the way up to LOUD.
FM radio works. Presets work. Reception is good so far. (This is with the helmet speakers already removed as I use monitors instead.)
Intercom works between units (both 20S units).
GPS (Zumo 660) paired as a second mobile phone mutes music automatically when giving audio instructions.
Music sharing works.

Not had an opportunity to try pairing with non-Sena branded bluetooth comms (which it could do) or other Sena units (it handles up to 8). I intend to buy an SR10 bluetooth radio interface with PTT for my Kenwood PMR radio then pair the Zumo and Kenwood through that, but it can wait for now.

A point worthy of note is that I had trouble getting music sharing to work. I did as instructed and held the jog dial button until I heard three beeps then released, but didn't hear a "Music sharing" voice prompt. Repeated and still no luck.......I then went to the pillion helmet which had music playing and repeated the hold for three beeps and it then streamed music to both helmets from my iPhone 4S via bluetooth.

I presume whichever helmet gets the music stream first has to then be set to sharing, that wasn't made clear in the Youtube video from Sena. Also, it is advisable to raise the little flip up antennas to improve audio streaming, and if you compare helmets there is a tiny delay between each helmet audio almost like a 'reverb' as each unit processes the bluetooth audio data at slightly different times.

Hope any other 'early adopters' (aka Beta testers) like myself get some benefit from the above.

I've been wanting to get the 20S to replace an autocom system but have been waiting until the issues are sorted as they now seem to be.

Where is the best place to buy from to ensure I get the latest unit, not an older one that's been sitting on the shelf? Thanks, M

I bought mine from Cliff at Adventure Bike Shop. He is a mate but equally I would not recommend anyone unless I felt they are worth dealing with and he is a good chap. I was in there at the weekend and the ones on the shelf were all 1408 (August 2014) serial numbers onward, meaning they will be fine. The serial number is the only way to know for sure. Wherever you get them from make sure you specify 1408 or newer. :thumb

Cheers,

Matt

Odd issue with the 20s. It's on v1.2 firmware, and it's a replacement unit. I have an iPhone 5s paired as a phone, to use phone functions and for music. I have Zumo 590 paired as a GPS (press jog dial for 6 seconds, when it says pair intercom press phone button, when it says 2nd mobile phone press phone button again, when it says GPS pair to the GPS). The problem is the same if the Zumo is paired as a 2nd mobile phone too.

All works fine until I press mute on the GPS so I can read the display without listening to voice prompts, then my music disappears!. Switch mute off, music comes back.

I've logged it with Sena.

Hopefully something else they will sort as the firmware and product matures.

Well, this is now solved - if you don't want to listen to voice prompts, from the Zumo, instead of doing volume>Mute, do volume>spanner, then set Navigation to o% and untick button sounds. The all is well, apart, that is, from a new issue. When I double tap the jog dial to listen to iPhone music, the mic opens! And so I get raod noise and me breathing in my earholes.

Another Sena ticket raised.....
