Just had the fork seals and oil replaced on my 5 year old 800GS.
The journey home seemed a lot 'firmer' on the potholes and speedbumps that are our roads.

First time I've ever had this done on a bike - do any of you more experienced chaps know if this is normal?

(or has my arse really become bonier as I've just passed 50?)

Had the seals gone? If so, you'd have lost oil and damping. Now it's fixed, it will seem firmer. Maybe the oil is a heavier weight than you had, which will also give the same effect.

Not many Tossers on here getting bonier!

I change the fork oil and made sure the oil was up to the recommended level. It does make a noticeable deference. (in a good way).
