I need new grips for me Dakars heated bars. Asked at BW dealer, they said 'only available with the heater elements inside them, £69.-- please'

So which after market ones fit? :nenau

I thought I just had to get two OE throttle grips and job done.

i've just done mine, i got 2 throttle grips and cut the originals off and slide the new ones on. You should look at the chain gang website there is a step by step guide. it only cost £20 from motorworks and it made a brill job.

Val, as above.

Carefully cut the old grip away and use a nice cheap hairspray to lubricate the new grip when installing.

Easy job but take alot of care when removing the old grip:thumb2

Davy & Flip - are you talking about heated grips or ordinary grips?
My heated grips have worn through and need changing but if I can stick ordinary grips over the heater elements than that would be great.

BTW, WTF do you know about hairspray, Flip? Been a long time since you used any I'll bet! :augie

I know all about the hair spray trick. :D

Previous owner forced on a pair of cheepo MX grips. The right one has already split, the other is slipping round already so no prob there.

davylat,
Do Motorworks actually supply BW grips? The ones shown on their website are foam 'I don't want foam'.

Now now, no need for that, I could grow hair if I wanted to (unfortunately it would be everywhere but on my head):D:D:D

Buy 2 BM throttle rubbers matey for heated grips :thumb

Has anyone fitted these grips yet ?

I rang motorworks a couple of weeks ago as my grips are worn ( before I noticed this thread )I asked if I could do exactly as has been mentioned here ie cut old ones off and just slide the new rubber grips ( the ones that have been linked to above ) on, they said not, I would have to get the heated grips at £50+ each :(

Is this right, has anyone successfully fitted the cheaper grips. If so instructions would be very much appreciated

Thanks

I have fitted the cheaper grips on my 1150. They look pretty much the same as the standard items.

There is an excellent thread by MikeO over on ADV Rider which shows how to do the job. Again it is for the 1150 but may hopefully work on the 650 too.

Californian Sport Touring sell Grip Puppies , which are just a foam rubber tube the slips which slide over the heated grip.

They come in three sizes, the medium slips right over the heated grip as if they were designed for the job.

I have them on all my bikes as I find they stop the numb fingers syndrome.

The fact that they protect the rather fragile OEM heated grips was just a bonus for me.

Cost around $10- a pair , they last me around 20,000 km.

Motorworks say no, but sherlocks will sell you 2 throttle rubbers for an 1150 which look exactlt the same as the 650 ones to me.

Sherlocks will sat no too, but I did it on the 1150 without issue:thumb

I've got two throttle grips from Motorworks. They don't look anything like the 650/1150 grips.
Mine actualy look similar in shape to the 1200 grips.

No I still haven't gotten round to fitting them yet either.
