New Gs 1150 Exhaust

Remus Cans

:beerjug:
Anyone with a Remus . I have fitted new system Thursday had a run and a good look today . Bike much better as said earlier . Question .Looking from the back of the bike the silencer sits at an angle . Bottom turned in (11o,clock - 5 o,clock ) is this normal I would have thought 12 - 6 o clock . It is not possible to fit any other way , is this for the panniers or just Remus or do I have a Bum system . I am very happy with the improvement on performance .

Martin and Kevin:
Yes, the y-piece, end can or both together can be fitted without the chip. The lamda sensor feeds information to the engine management system about the fuel air ratio and makes necessary adjustments. But you need a chip if you want to alter those ratios and get the bike to run richer or to change the power curve from the BMW standard set-up.
Basically, the y-piece without a catalyst gives a noticeable improvement (Martin, just fit this at first for a real difference), the K&N a little bit more (do this 2nd). The can doesn't do much more but sounds better and is lighter: certainly an end can without changing the cat for the y-piece improves things very little but you just think it does because it sounds better! (buy your can last - look for 2nd hand bargains but if its alloy watch out for mileage).
All three together give the improvements you mention Kevin, but the chip does as much again. It's best not to do it all at once anyway because you don't appreciate the benefits. Enjoy your set-up for a while, then buy the chip and enjoy it all over again.
The poor fitting you mention is a Remus problem. You can get the bracket changed.

I hope this helps.

Of some interest possibly is that the October issue of Bike comes with a CD of bike exhaust sounds. The 1150GS with a Remus titanium can is one of them.

I'll point out that it is an extremely boring CD. Lyrically very weak and the central motif tends to drag after a while.

Great fun for turning up loud and making the neighbours think you're rebuilding your bike in your front room.
