About to buy a new GSA , I want the Premium package with top box /fittings, as quoted by dealer , ( well my notes really from talking to them , hope they are correct).
This would come to :
new GSA bike otr: 10K
Premium Package: 1K
top-box +fittings - £ 436

A horrible total of £ 11,436

If I asked for them to come in at around 11K, will they just laugh at me, or do a deal ?

Thanks for advice

A mate of mine just ordered a new GSA with dynamic pack. He paid list for the bike / pack but the dealer threw in panniers / mounting frames for nowt.

As jonnie says - winter's on its way - good time to deal...

Did not think of that, you're right , winter is on they way , bikes don't get sold much in thoses months.

I'll update this thread with their response.
fingers crossed,

I'd been looking at a new GSA with Dynamic and Premium and managed to negotiate a minimum of £400 off. If you go to a retailer who hasn't hit their quarterly target they'll be falling over themselves in "credit crunch" recession-esque days!!

Alternatively, if you're not totally desperate to buy one now, wait late Jan next year and they'll be bending over for your business (forward or backward!!:aidan).

However, contend with a SIGNIFICANT price increase as manufacturers are killing themselves through the increase of raw material costs...

Take your pick and pay your money!

Very similar experience and discounts to Palerider when I bought my GSA last week.

I was told new BMW bike prices will be up significantly due to Raw Material costs and the poorer Euro/£ conversion ratio than in late 2007 when import prices were fixed for all of 2008

True - each manufacturer sets an internal exchange rate which is set for the year. This is independent of price increases during the year which have happened historically up until recently.

Whilst all manufacturers are dying to put their prices up to cover their raw material increases, they have to balance this against makeing sales in a hardening financial market, so whilst they'll increase they can't go silly....at least that's the theory!! :D

Of course you could do what I ended up doing and buying a 2008 GSA with the spec I wanted for £2k less than MRP. It's only got 1950 miles on it so it wasn't worth looking at a new one:thumb

Me too......................let the 1st owner take the Vat hit

GSA with full luggage and premium pack and got a £600 discount and free first service worth around £100:D

Push them for another couple of hundred...

:agree

Best answer is to shop around all the other dealers before you go to the one you actually want to maintain a relationship with, and then hit them with the deal.

I had negotiated a minimum of 400 notes of the new one I was looking at....

Not sure what the alloy BMW panniers and frames I mentioned above that my mate got thrown in are worth, but I'm pretty sure it's more than £200....

Guess, as ever, it depends how hungry the dealer is.

I got a 2008 fully loaded GSA dealer demo with a good chunk knocked off, a 6000 service & new tyres & some extras included and new BMW panniers at cost

You lot just aren't trying hard enough

Hello,
Well I managed to negotiate the premium package + top box + battery charger and socket for 11k. I think it is a good deal and I like the dealer as well ( Tony at South London BMW).
So order placed, expect delivery late Sept. Cannot wait.

From The Dealer !

Thought I would add to this thread now it is all sorted, and of course I am DELIGHTED you ordered it from Tony here at SLM DXTANS ! Thank you for your business, we appreciate it and welcome to SLM.

Now, on the “are the prices of new bikes going up” question, the raw material issues are effecting all manufacturers, and I know that the actual cost of manufacturer for BMW motorcycles has increased, however, they have assured us that this will NOT result in increased retail prices as it has with most other manufacturers. However, that is the case today, and only the manufacturer controls this, so we can only state this today !

On the deal issue, what can I say ? All dealers want to win your business. Our position at SLM is simple. We want to do a deal that is good for our customer and good for us, and we want to build a relationship that sees us looking after our customer way beyond their bike purchase, and we want to ensure that we earn the loyalty of our customer from the deal and the all important service that goes with it, initially and ongoing. That’s good business for all I think. Alaric (MD at South London Motorrad)
