Time for a new lid. Always preffered flip front types but i'm open to change. The important thing is noise. Currently have a Caberg Justissimo but have to have MP3 player cranked up high to stop wind noise but then can't hear the engine or any buggar else.
Any recomendations please

I went for the BMW System 5 when it came to a flip front, found it works very well when it comes to fitting speakers as it has "large" pods specifically them.

Sound quality is good and it's ouieter than some of my full face lids.

Hello,
In Jan I had to renew my lid as my trusty Arai was getting on a bit. I was trully shocked at the price of an Arai of the same spec but fond an X-lite 901 cheap as it was discontinued. It fitted well and had a double d ring. Seven months later the interior has fallen to pieces and X-lite (Nolan)have promised to send a replacment. Soooo my advice would be to wedge up and buy an Arai. They last, are quiet, fit well and most importanly are safe. I'll only be buying Arai from now on. I've had Bell, Nolan, Kiwi, Agv, Griffon, Stadion, MDS and three Arais. The Arais and the MDS were by far the best.:thumb

IMHO you can't go wrong with an Arai :thumb2

Unless you have the wrong shaped head

The only way to find the right helmet for you is to go to the helmet seller and try them for yourself.

It's offten said 'buy the best helmet you can afford' That said, if it don't fit ya, it ain't the best 'is it'.

I would say if you got on well with you old Caberg Justicimo, then take a look at the new version, the Justicimo GT. I was looking at one a friend has just bought. The intirior looks much better, plus it can be upgraded to Blootooth. It still dosn't fit me though.

I wear Sony earbuds (not sure if it's legal) & can listen to my tunes, engine noises & fire engines no problem....

Why would Sony Earbuds be illegal? (I'm not being sarcastic - it's an honest question).

Also when at my local BMW dealer, they indicated that Arais, are always loud and that their System 5 (if that's the flip front jobbie) was much quieter. Any thoughts / experiences.

I'm thinking about a new lid - and have wondered about the flip front's, but suffer enough noise with the Arai (Astro J I think it is). So I don't want to make it worse.

Cheers

They are illegal in North Carolina (where I previously lived) as they are said to impare the ability of the rider to hear emergency vehicles, not sure if the same applies here....:nenau

Over the years I have used Bell, Lem, Shoei, Arai (in work :augie ) and Schuberth. When I was looking to renew earlier this year I looked at the available flip fronts and eventually went for another Schuberth, the C2 this time. I find the weight suits me (I'm not a fan of super light helmets. Each to their own.) I find they fit my head shape (slightly unusual due to birth defect) and they are very quiet. I also like the integral sun visor, the anti-mist visor (for so long as it works) and the town riding position on the visor. I also like the one-handed operation of the flip front and the seatbelt chin strap.

I couldn't get a Nolan to try although it was considered.

I found the Shoei much too light and uncomfortable.

The BMW System 5 I found to be noisy with a perceived poor build quality. It also has a channel (presumably designed for better acoustics) that directs flies and wasps directly into your ear. Never a good thing to my mind.

I also looked at the Roof but I don't like the snap fasteners on the chin bar.

I had a Schuberth Concept before the C2 and I also like that.

I would...

recommend the BMW System 5. I have had mine for 3 years, it has covered just over 100,000 miles. It's never leaked, have ridden in all sorts of weather. It is fitted with the double glazed visor which has never misted up. It is nice and quiet, works well with the Autocom head sets giving good sound from my GPS / Phone / MP3 palyer. Today I purchased a new System 5. My reason for the new helmet, my old one has started to be a bit on the loose side from intensive use and is now not as quiet as it was.....:D

Schuberth and sound

I got an autocom for music, gps and intercom earlier this year and was told that Schuberth helmets are awkward to set the ear pieces into.

Would welcome any comment on this myself, as I would like a quieter helmet, though I'll probably try changing the screen first to cut down the racket from buffeting. :D

Schuberth C2

I have a Schuberth C2 with autocom earpieces fitted. My comments would be:-

+ves:)
1 Well made
2 Integral sun visor
3 Noise levels very low
4 Ventilation

-ves:(
1 I find the flip up mechanism difficult to use one handed
2 For some reason (shape of head???) I need to use 2 hands to close the lid.
3 I found fitting the Autocom fiddly as you have to disassemble the lid to get behind the cheek pads and I dont really want to be taking a lid to bits if I can help it.
4 I dont think enough space is allowed in the mouldings for the ear pieces and they do press against my ears after a while - but maybe thats my head again. This is something you cant really tell with a 3 min try on in the shop.

I use the Schuberth C2 when I am on the bike on my own, love the sun visor and the quitness of the helmet. Could not find a position in which the Aotocom headphones have been comfortable so when the wife is on the back I use a BMW System 5 now. Of the two I prefer the C2 but....
