New high beam unit, Source for lighting connectors?

Hi all,

I've been looking at yet another way of improving the laughable lighting on my 1150GSA. I've got foglights to supplement the dip beam, my problem is with the high beam which is so tightly focussed that on the unlit twisty roads where I live it's about as much use as a laser pointer.

I realise that the best solution would be to mount driving lights. However, here in Spain these are illegal, unlike foglights, and open you up to being stopped and fined (and from this June also losing points on your licence). I also like the idea of a HID conversion such as the one Touratech sell, but this also suffers from questionable legality and unquestionably high price.

So instead I've been having a lash at changing the high beam unit for a better one. I got hold of a Hella 90mm high beam unit, which takes an H7 bulb, and I bodged together an adaptor plate from polycarbonate to fix it in place of the stock high beam as you can (hopefully) see in the photo below.

After a first test ride, the difference is truly amazing. It throws out a lot more light (even though the Hella has a stock bulb and the original lamp had a PIAA super wotsit) and has a much wider spread, with the coverage actually starting just in front of the front wheel, and extending well out to the sides. It really shows up what a badly-designed piece of crap the stock main beam is.

I don't want to go back to the stock lamp, so now I'd like to make the installation more permanent and robust. I know that in the Nippy Norman's and Touratech HID conversions the wiring uses a connector which plugs straight in to the BWM one (the one that plugs into the twist-off plastic cap at the back of the lamp body). Can anybody tell me where I could get hold of these connectors? If anyone can actually provide part numbers and a URL then they will have earned themselves several virtual beers.

Cheers

Hi Les,

Thanks for the link, but I don't really want to fit a HID conversion. They're not legal here and the police are apparently cracking down. And with the H7 bulb lamp I've fitted the main beam is fine, lots of light and a decent wide spread. I just want to find a source for the connectors so that I can wire it in properly instead of bodging soldered pins into the plug which is how I currently have it connected.

Cheers

I've got a spare twist off cap, but am also on the hunt for a pair of connectors to wire into the loom that plug into the back of the light units that come as standard parts of the 1150 loom but not the 1100, but cannot find anyone that makes them.
Let me know if you need the twist off cap,

Goose

Lyn: Many thanks for the links, I can't see what I'm after on the websites but I'll give them a ring and see what they can come up with.

Goose: PM'ed you
