Hi everyone,

A long time follower of this excellent and competent forum, but a first time poster. I wanted to introduce myself from across the North Sea.

After having had to depart with my beloved 1150GS last summer, I have acquired a high-milage R1200GSA (2010) with 141,000 km.

I am trying to use the winter to get to know a new bike that has evolved a fair bit from the old classic, and will hope to benefit from your vast knowledge on certain topics.

Best regards,
Einar Råsberg

Hi Einar
Welcome to the Forum, I’ll be visiting your beautiful country in May / June and really looking forward to it.

It’s a great forum and you’ll have many happy hours here.

Regards
Rich,

Welcome to the forum! You’re a lucky man living in Norway. I spent four years in Stavanger but never really took advantage of the place. Too much work! Regretted it ever since.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the warm welcome! It's a short season up here, but definitely some nice places to ride when the weather allows.

For those heading this way, do feel free to ask questions. I'll do my best to answer.

Hej Einar.
I live in Norrbotten, (the northern part of Sweden) and also own a 2010 R1200GSA. My have approx. 120,000km on the odometer (so 12,000 Swedish miles="Svenska mil") and I am very satisfied with this bike. I was looking for a 2010-20013 model for some time because I prefer the Twin-Cam oil-cooled engine. For me it's the best engine ever in a GS although I'll always have a soft spot for the first GS (G/S) engine, the airhead
Unfortunately mine was an early one so it had a "not so well functioning fuel-strip". I converted to a float(potentiometer) according to the instructions on this page which worked perfectly. Mine has Öhlins EC shock absorbers, steering damper and soon also 21" front wheel. These bikes are nice to ride and very nice when doing repairs and service. I recommend that you get Motoscan Ultimate, a very good and affordable diagnostic tool. I mostly drive on gravel /sand road and my favorite tire is the old classic TKC80. Hope you have a good time with your ride.

Hi Greg, thank you and glad to hear you had a good experience when you were here. We can be a bit introvert sometimes (unless there's alcohol involved), but we don't bite. ;)

Tjena Alf !
You live further north than me, I am living in Oslo, though originally from Bergen. You live in a beautiful part of Sweden.

We have similar bikes and milage. I do miss my 1150GS, which was "the bike" for me, but I couldn't find an equivalent here in Norway (it's a small marked), so I decided to try the last air-cooled version (figured it was possible to do the majority of servicing myself based on my existing knowledge). Still getting used to it, and now also the maintenance tasks. I hope I'm able to sort out most of the bugs and issues before the season starts
.
Thank you for the tips on tyres and diagnostic tool. Think I'm on the original suspension but i have no maintenance history on the bike. From what I can see, she has had a rough life. In time I may need to upgrade some parts, time will tell. I usually do around 15,000km a season, so curious to see whether I can make this bike reliable and economical. I have taken a bit of a gamble admittedly.
