Jacko, a top choice of bike mate. I have a 2004 R1200GS and love it. She had her 18000 mile service yesterday and is smoothing out nicely and burning no oil (they use a bit for the first 10k).

Things to watch for from my experience are corrosion on the front engine cover panel beneath the paint due to a reaction between the aluminium cover and steel bolts, wear on the paintwork on the frame where the riders heels rub, and problems with corrosion of the wiring to the auxiliary power socket on the LH side beneath the riders seat due to unprotected wiring (easily prevented with some silicon grease). These are relatively minor problems with what is a fantastic bike. I have heard of some problems with Servo/ABS brakes but have no problems with mine and really rate the way it stops.

If you buy used, insist on seeing sevice history reciepts etc, do an HPI check for crash damage/outstanding finance etc and give the bike a good check over or pay for an AA inspection.

Try a long test ride on the 1150, you may find you CAN get on with the height with some practise. I`m only just above 5FT 4" and I have found it OK. Better than breaking down all the time on a 1200 :D
:hide incoming!

Sorry for shouting. my x wife said i never pressed the right button.

Although I have a 1150, it is NOT a height thing, but an inside leg thing. I am 5'10" but only have a 29" inside leg. This is what counts. My GS truthfully is a tad too big for me, which is why I fell over when the ground wasn't where my foot expected it to be!

no probs with my GS1200 and besides a nice two year long warranty comes with it....

Im a member of the 'shorter leg' club and own an 02 1150. Despite the problems encountered by other learned menbers i.e. finding that the ground isnt quite where you left it / expected it to be, Im totally in awe of my GS. I love it to bits.......YES it is agricultural in its build quality, but that was one of its selling features. There are no hidden agendas, I knew what I was buying and tries to get the best one I could afford. Having said that , mine DID come with a few niggles, none of which are going to significantly alter my quality of life (!). BM's.....you either love em or hate em...........The 1200 IS a totally different beast - but thats progress for you. If the 1200 was an 1150 in disguise, then it wouldnt be a 1200..simple really. Go with your heart my son, and that way you will always be trully satisfied with your purchase. ENJOY !!!

your right GSDUDE I'l go with my heart!!!!!!!! yellow/black/grey
spoke wheels(I'm definetly going offroad).ABS not shure, please advise.

To ABS or not to ABS, that is the question ?

.ABS not shure,please advise. [/B]

If it's an option then go for it, after all you only need to use it once in anger for it to save your life, unless of course you are some riding god ! You can always turn it off when going off-road.
