'New' Roof Boxer illegal to ride with guard up

I would guess that the system 4 and 5 must be okay as they can actually be worn as an open face helmet if you remove the chin bar and add the pods.

Apparently the way the 'new' Roof Boxer helmet is tested for BS certification means that it's no longer legal to ride with the chin guard up :(

You can tell it's a new one BTW because it'll have a red rubber washer thingy in the guard's pivot mechanism (look for the red ring around the screw cap)

Thats interesting cuase I was told by the salesman in my local Roof stockist that only the ones with the red ring where legal to ride with the chin bar up :nenau

Roger,

We were instructed that they were not to be worn open while riding (Systems Two and Three). It still winds me up when I see a copper wearing one open while riding :spitfire (how can anyone do that and still issue 'fixers' to people not doing-up their chin-strap?)

Don't know about the Shoei that's being used in my old force now. :nenau

Bike cops in Glasgow use Shoei's and I see them riding with them open. I often ride with my HJC open, thats probably illegal aswell

Well the red ring ones are definately the newer ones.......and the old ones were certified as open faced........so I think your dealer's got it the wrong way around. :nenau

Probably, but the ones with the red rings have been out for well over a year.

The original Boxer helmet was manufactured in Italy, then taken to France where they fitted the flip up front. It was therefore available as a jet helmet. Which explains the original kitemark. The C1 helmet case was just a bunch of muppet Magistrates not understanding the law.

Had the definative off the Polisss on Sunday; illegal to ride with the face bar up. Yes THEY do it but it is still wrong.
On another front, they do seem to be a solution to a non-existant problem.

Spoke to a bike cop in Glasgow today, he confirmed the Shoei Syncrotec he was wearing was REALLY noisey. But said it was 'legal' to ride with it open, that was the reason Strathclyde Police use them to allow the bike cops to ride with them open.

Anyone loose any sleep over this "issue" :D

No of course not, but I did find the right size in the 'old' (legal to ride with it up) version rather then the 'new' (same lid, different tests applied) version........

If I'm going to get pulled for some plod who's had a really bad day, I don't see the sense of having some silly things he/she could use......if everything apart from what I'm being pulled for is legit, it just makes life a bit easier :nenau

I went and tried on a Roof Boxer at the weekend at my local stockist, disapointed visors was to close to my nose and chin bar was almost touching my chin. As for the fiddly stud locking system I could work it tanding in the shop never mind whilst on a bike :eek Think i'll stick to 'conventional' flip fronts, now if they could just make a quiet one
