replaced the damn thing but still cant get the speedo to move, I did notice that the metal slot thing that the wheel end of the cable fits into was a bit ropey - spinning the wheel didnt budge it and the only time it would move was when you span the wheel and twisted the thing ....it juddered its way around...old speedo cable def. broken.

Any suggestions on what next thanking you ta,

Brian

Sounds like you need to replace your speedo drive unit.....

But....
You may be lucky and find that it`s just jammed with shite or lightly seized through lack of lubrication.

Gerrit off and have a look :D

Gorrit oft, it was the white plastic ring....

Thanks Tarka

...That had worn away - what's the bet that these arnt available as a spare :eek and that its the whole unit that needs replacing.....

Got one (the whole thing) from Sherlock's only the other week; £15 inc. P&P. Next day delivery too. :bow

Regards, Mick

Mines started messing about as well. The speedo works, and so does the trip meter, but the overall mileage counter starts and stops when it wants to(usually starts again with a good smack)I wore a set of TK's out and only recorded 3 miles in january, and the set on there now have only done just over 400 miles, and they're shagged as well.

Do I need a new bike?

If it's only doing 400 miles to a set of tyres you need to get rid of it quick.

I'll give you £100 for it, if it's got brand new tyres on it :D

If you get the speedo drive for an 1100R it will make your speedo more accurate as well.
