Now that I have moved to Spain I can indule you in a few local ride-outs.
This one is a local favourite -

It's March 1 and I have a nice hours ride up a lonley mountain track that runs to the 'Batteria' - see link above. Overlooking the Med to protect the area from passing ships. The road branches off the Mazarron - Cartagena back route and after a few miles through villages, orange and lemon groves it climbs to the dead end where the Guns and Fort are located. On the Med side there are steep cliffs of a few hundred feet and it reminds me of the Guns of Navarone movie. You are free to roam around the derelict Fort and visit the many rooms and passages. The guns themselves are rather impressive. If you continue past the fort the track continues and runs all the way down to the Med where I believe there is the orginal jetty for loading / unloading stores etc. This is rather steep and suitable only for the adventurous GS'ers amoungst you.
