Getting use to the big boxer - When changing from first to second sometimes I feel a clean tight snick/clunk gear change and other times it seems to have a looser kinda double snick/clunk feeling. Is this normal?

Also, when feathering the clutch in first can you sometimes feel a little movement, a very small clunk in the drive chain? I’m assuming it’s the shaft linkage engaging?

Which model \year bike is it that you have?.

I wouldn't bother with the quick shifter from first to second unless your well up the revs. everything else should be good, yours is the better gearbox than mine apparently but I would guess same "rules" apply.
As for the shaft thing I have no idea - mines a 1250. 🫣

I find just the opposite, change up to second asap, as soon as you are moving and without a lot of throttle, it will change up on just the quickshifter fine on both 1250 & 1300gs.
