Ok hear goes
My name is Gordon and I have just re-entered the world of air heads, having bought a wonderful R80 G/S from a nice chap called Tony (who along with his sons appear on this site often). So on behalf of all the other new users of air heads, I post the following question: -
What should I know?
I.e. tires (on and off road), oils, plugs, ect, service intervals, best mods, aftermarket parts, bigger alternators for grips, heated clothing and sat nav.
Of course I only ask these questions to help others who haven’t had my 45yrs of bike riding experience but I will read your answers with interest on my return to the UK in April
Ps sorry Proff but I forgot to take notes.

Hi Gordon..
The tyres currently on Litl'un are the best for road and green laning :thumb2
Metzler 1 front + 2 rear
Electric upgrades?? I've never even thought of it. Thunderbird diode pack and Gel pack Battery, yes but anything else :nenau
OIL, good quality 20/50 mineral oil changed every 5000 miles along with filter.
NOT FUCKING DUCKHAMS shite tho'

I've rode bikes with other types of tyre fitted, TKC's = not for me.
Heidenhau/hidenburg whatevers = not for me
Michelin [ my choice for all 4/6 wheeled vehicles ] not on my bikes :)

TYRES. :rob :augie
Personal choice and depending on severity of use and terrain.

, oils, plugs, ect, service intervals,

RTFM.

best mods, aftermarket parts,

Depends what you want to do with the bike.

bigger alternators for grips, heated clothing and sat nav.

Modification not necessary for the above in normal useage.
Potentially so if you ride everywhere at 20mph with daytime lights on and all the above.

Oh...and hello. :D

So it was you that bought that shed from Cornwall !! ;)
That is a cracking bike you have acquired:bounce1, young Anthony will be sorely missing it by now :(
Get down to the Gentlemens Wee-Kend and you'll learn loads, everyone did last year ( except Kev:blast;) )
Welcome aboard and start asking away :thumb2

RTFM?

Thanks for all of the above. I have done over 1000mls so far (been showing The Little un its new home) and I'm loving every moment. I’m away for a while but I'll post pictures when I return. If you all have any more thoughts on keeping my bike reliable and usable for the next 50K I would be most grateful. Ps I’m looking for a Slipstream deflector and a single seat. Last of all, Yes I think I may smell of wee, the way my cat looks at me says OH YES YOU DO.

I bought a new slip stream deflector last year from Motorworks..about £100..plus you will need the fitting kit although it can ( with patience ) be fitted without it...( tis a stick on marked sheet for the three mounting holes to be drilled into the plastic cowling..plus three 5mm nuts n bolts ). Most of the slip stream deflectors ( small fairing to most  ) that come up on Ebay are knackered ! AMHIK !!

Single seat.......Thunder and Colt on this site have many spares...but again, like hens teeth and not all of the aftermarket ones are on good quality !!

Hi and welcome Gordon, Glad you have joined this bunch of tossers, As Kenny says, get yersen down to the weekend, but just remember to bolt everything down, Kenny's a scouser you know. Glad you are enjoying the bike and riding it . Have a good holiday :thumb2

Thanks Tony :thumb
I'm just about to walk out of the door. I'll be back on here as soon as I get back
Btw Proff re "RTFM" I'm from Yorkshire and thats the last thing we do but I'll give it a go just this once :D

Hand guards reduce the need for heated grips and keep your hands dry too.

Combined with a little Givi screen the give a surprising amount of protection.

If you havent changed the oil filter yet try and get someone to show you how to fit the O ring and cover, as there are problems in making certain that the large O ring is sufficiently compressed. And dont think that just because the last one was fitted by a BMW dealer it will be ok to copy.DAHIK
