New tomtom

Have ordered new one as my V1 has given up and refuses to work. Cradle on bike hasn't charged for ages.

Should arrive tomorrow all being well.

Have always used tomtom just find garmin too awkward.

Report to follow after trip to France in just under 4 weeks.

Only change in cradle appears to be no. of pins, 7 on the new RIDER.

When you get it could you please let me know if it has the new 'Safety Zones' for France. The TTRider2 and others cannot be updated for this but it is unclear whether the new TTRider pro has it installed.

I'm guessing that the new one won't fit in my existing Touratech locking mount, or work with the powered dock for my Urban Rider Europe, but could someone confirm this?

Afternoon I can confirm the new rider does have the "danger zones" as tomtom call them, all installed and just doing update of new maps as I type.

That's very useful to know Mr Medic, as speed camera's seem to be popping up all over the show in France now. So you can lead in May and warn us before we hit them!!!!

Thank you for that. It raises the question why Tom Tom could not do this for the existing models, but if I upgrade at least I know it will have that feature.

If the near constant ding-ding and warning of 'Danger Zones' is there instead of cameras, then I will probably turn it off. A pain in the a***e, has me looking round about for cameras all the time

Mc I will be able to confirm exactly what they involve on return from our annual holiday to Riders Rest at the end of May and how the dinging does.

the old urban rider will fit in the new cradle but not charge up as said different pins.
the lead is the same though so no need to rewire.
i love my tomtom its found me routes i didnt know existed i cant see its worth changing at the price though unless you need all the map of Europe at one time..
it is a bit unfair giving them free maps and still charging us though.

If my TT1 still worked then would happily have kept it tbh.

As for the free lifetime maps - if its like garmin then it only lasts for so long. I think garmin is 3 years - someone with knowledge please feel free to correct me if I am incorrect on this. With the TT I believe its for as long as they produce updates for your particular model though so hopefully will have it for another 7 years like my TT1.

Fits in Wunderlich locking mount with a little bit of modification, need to push the bottom down about 2-3 mm. Cradle same size, but with 7 instead of 4 pins as mentioned before..

By coincidence, my old TT rider V1 wouldn't charge on the bike this week and the cradle plastic was badly cracked where it fits into a Touratech bracket. Had a go at fixing it, not much luck but it has been in service for a very long time now, the GPS receiver still works fine but the cradle is knackered. Now 'retired' to car use only in my new works car when I start my new job.

Gone over to the dark side and bought a Zumo 660 to replace it, almost bought another Tomtom then thought better of it due to their crap mounts which I don't trust.

I read that the new TomTom is not as easy to use as the current urban , but has twisty routes etc . I find the Urban pretty easy to use and battery life about 6 hours . I'm not upgrading it as it does all I need

its just as easy to use,its allways had twisty routes anyway.
mine was allways set for ask each time,you dont want twisty routes with 300 miles to go.

it has a few tweaks and maps for life was the decider for me
tomtom told me all products will have it now to keep up with competition.

i left my origanal lead on the bike and my ram mount i just fitted the new cradle.

only had it a few days so still fine tuning it.
