I’m getting this lovely old lass MOT’d in the morning, she’s been stood in my garage a few years and although the tyres have excellent tread they are quite old, not sure how old …but old!

Any recommendations as what to fit in the way reasonable fresh rubber?

A second vote for conti classic attacks….

Ace tyres wet or dry

Nice looking bike.:thumby:

I’ve heard the Avons RR’s are very good.

Thanks guys, just received these quotes from Browns tyres in Malton. They do ride-in ride-out, balance etc.

Per pair..

Bridgestone BT46 @ £282
Continental Go @ £276
Avon Roadrider @ £304
The prices include fitting to your bike, balancing, casing disposal and VAT.
The tyres are available next working day.

Your thoughts are..

Because I have gone way outside my comfort zone (speed, lean angle and duration) with Avon Roadriders and have seen other track-day punters use the same, I will not bother to get there again with another brand of tyres for these bikes. They perform excellently and leave me no doubt about their grip etc wet or dry. So for me it is Roadriders every time (and I take loose wheels in to reduce the price accordingly).

You'll likely get similar from those who've taken other brands to their limit.

The big difference between rhe Conti Classic Attacks and all the other tyres you have priced up is that the Conti's are radial rather than cross ply. I have the BT46's on a couple of my bikes and do like them, I also have the Avon's on my R100CS, but the feel and confidence from the Conti's is just better, wet or dry.

At the time of launch, Conti claimed their Classic Attacks were 2 seconds a lap quicker than the cross ply comparison group on track.

Avon road riders are excellent tyres, you will want for nothing with these. Now improved with the mk2 version. I have these on a r100rs and a r80rt. Cost was £230. All in.

Blimey thats a great price, was that a while ago?

That was 6 weeks ago, Strathearn tyres ,Crieff Scotland.they are very well known and respected. It looks like your paying through the nose but there’s no doubt the price of tyres is going up!.

Well I’ve shopped around and best price I have now is £267.00 that’s wheels off bike, so I’ve got them coming tomorrow, the tyres on my old girl have a date of 98/01 which makes a bit past their sell by date at 24 years old.

I’ve had the bike 2 years but never used it, she’s a cracker.

Thanks to all.

My limited understanding is that being a cross ply, the BT46 would be more suited to 1970’s or aged suspension?

The likes of the Classic Attacks, Michelin Road Classic and I believe Metzler’s Roadtech 01 (now that it can be had in airhead flavour) are possibly more suited to those with more modern suspension set ups?

Of course I could be totally wrong?
