I see the new VFR 800 has just been launched.
Has it been ripped apart on these pages yet . :augie
I liked the old bikes but was not so keen on recent updates.
But this new bike seems to have sorted most issues and looks much better than recent attempts.
Who needs a tyre shredding GT1600 or VFR 12 when you could have this ?
Not that it means much but here's what Bike had to say :

Real soft spot for the VFR. Had two 750's ( the final model shape) and a Vtec. I was sitting on the new white one in my Honda dealers and it's rather lovely.

I have a VFR750 and absolutely love it to bits, such a superb bike.

I've kept my eye on the news for this new VFR and I have to say that I really like it, I mean really really like it!

However ........ is it £9,000 better that my original 750 .... I very much doubt it!

Or to put it another way, I could keep my 750 and spend £9k on another bike

Regardless of the maths .... I covet the new VFR!

I've had 3 VFR's 750 & 800 & VTEC, but £9K is a lot to pay for 800cc.
I'm waiting for the VFR1200T as my Crosstourer replacement.

Lovely bike in the flesh

Saw the first one at Damerells in Indian Queens when touring down there 2 weeks ago and got the geeza to fire it up, sounded great and unusual for a standard can well throaty, called into Fowlers when heading north and they had theirs in to and were as surprised as Dameralls that they had arrived as not due in till next month, local dealer has theirs too and manager had already notched up 92 miles and said it was really great and surprisingly a big leap from the existing vtech.
Some nice detail I didn't notice at the NEC like the colour matched rocker covers, yoke and wheels, TC switch is a clusterfeck though
I picked up he phone last Tues to sort a deal but the sales guy was busy, hour later another call saying the job is shakey :( so that's put that on hold for a while, will still get a ride though.

Love it, looks like a good update. Will book a test ride when I get back from this years tour. One will probably replace my current VTEC next year if I can justify the expense at the time, though will wait until there's a better deal on price and/or included luggage (they did that with both the VTEC and the 1200).

The outgoing model satisfies all my needs really but on an 04 plate it's starting to look a wee bit bit tired. 32,000 miles and the engine is, as expected, still as sweet as a nut. Lives outside under a cover though and looks are failing it on close inspection. If finances don't allow an upgrade in 2015 I won't have a problem, other than coveting one, until such time as funds permit.

The time to ride the one I've already got would be nice first though :banghead:

Loved my 88 and 97 VFRs and also my 99 800 pre VTEC which I sold in 2003.

Haven't had one since as not keen on the last VTEC.

This one looks very interesting and well worth a decent look at. :thumb

It should be a good bike, but its heavy imo. 248 kgs...Whether it shows it or not....

I read in a frnch / spanish mag a guy with a 95/97 vfr 750 had 500,000 kms on his bike, still going and looking fresh !

We need to go back to the future.

VFR 750

I had a couple of 750s over the years and loved them. A few months ago I found out that a friend of a friend was selling a mint, one owner very low mileage '97 one and bought it (this guy also has an RC30 and an RC45).
It's now got a high level Staintune can on it and the early wider rear wheel plus a custom built Maxton shock (I will send the forks to Maxton over the winter for rebuild/revalve). It is just such a lovely bike to ride and the V4 sounds lovely. Only (minor) complaint is that the pegs are quite high for a 'sports tourer' but I only use it for sunny days.
By contrast, a friend bought a new (early model) VTEC and I ran it in for him.....and hated it. The VTEC cutting in and out ruined what would have been a great bike.

But then this is only my opinion.......

Sometimes I forget what life was like in the UK, here in rural Austria the bikes would be lined up without disclocks and , most likely, with the key in the ignition

Shhhh dont tell everyone, you will get a swarm of Pikeys in Transits turn up.

I rode the new VFR very nice, but it felt like a very slightly more cramped riding position compared to the pre vtec model.
The gearbox was silky smooth[why cant other bikes be the same:rolleyes:] You dont notice the bikes weight.

Just bought me a red one with panniers and Scottoiler. Already has heated grips and centrestand so what more is there? Ah, RAM mount of course..... anyone fitted one to a 2014 model yet?

I have had the old 750 and pre VTEC 800. I love the styling on this new one and it rides lovely. The Adventure bike had to go......

What a shame that Honda never fixed the one thing that needed fixing - the whole valve check fiasco!

I swapped my Multistrada for a WC RT. I really like it but am still wondering whether I should have gone for the VFR instead. Never mind how it rides, it looks fantastic - especially in red.

Enjoy...

Bad press believed by the gullible. I had the 16k valve check carried out on my Vtec at the height of the scaremongering. For a full service plus the valves (only two needed shims replacing), £250. So maybe there are two ways to look at this. A real world price by a decent dealer or a dealer happy to stick the arm in because it was so widely reported in the bike rags. Take your pick...:aidan

Not gullible, just someone who does all of their own servicing. The thought of removing & reinstalling 4 cams TWICE, along with sourcing the relevant locking pins just to CHECK the valve clearance is rediculous (potentially need to come out & back in a 3rd time if adjustment is required)
Dealers often quote seemingly reasonable charges for a vtec check, try & pin them down on a price for check and adjustment.....
The cynical side of me could say many dealers are getting fat off not checking vtec clearances, or saying they've been done - but just the easy ones!

A vtec motor does have it's charms but is the equivalent of using a very big sledgehammer to crack a very small nut.
Each to their own I suppose.
