New Zealand, South Island.

Good report, NZ must surely be on everyones tick list.

I take it that it wasn't a cheap holiday. But well cash is for spending not saving:thumby:

great stuff

really enjoyed that Mike, the west coast of ireland is especially like Milford Sound this morning, thick cloud and wet. Must go to NZ for a change! great shots of the Burt Munro stuff. With all those American Classic petrol must be cheap. Thanks for posting.

Wow, looks fantastic :bow We're planning to go around Xmas 2018 as our 50th birthday treat if funds permit (although I'll still be 49 as I'm Trudi's toy boy by 5 months)

Thanks guys.
Petrol is a wee bit cheaper than here. Accommodation is much cheaper though, apart from Milford Sound. Food was a bit cheaper too.

Cheap petrol is a relative thing.
Here in big cities it is NZ$2.25 for a litre of 91 octane.
Go south into the more remote parts and price climbs.

The wooden engine in Hayes is amazing and sounds lovely when they fire it up.

Went looking to buy a property at the top of hill at Slope Point a few years back. Not one wall was square to its neighbours and noise of the wind in the pines would have driven us mad. Stunning location though.

Hi, Thanks for the post. PhysioJo and I will be there in just over a month. Flying into Christchurch and travelling the other way round the South Island. I have a R1200GS oi;head and PJ has a G650GS lined up to do the tour two up.

Can't wait.

Pathologic.

Did a similar trip earlier this year but by car. I worked in Auckland for a week and then we flew to Queenstown and took 12 days to drive back to Auckland.

It truly is a big country. Think Scotland but they do in meters what the Scots do in feet. West Coast is an amazing place, with Glacier that gets to within half a mile of the beach. Get further north to Abel Tasmin and it's more like the Caribbean, but as soon as you get inland a bit the fields are full of vineyards and plenty of wine tasting opportunities.

Ferry to Wellington and the drive north is amazing. Steam coming out of the ground everywhere you look and the geothermal parks are a sight to behold. Boiling mud and acidic steaming ponds.

It has to be one for the bucket list.
