I hope i am in the right place.

I am currently looking to buy a 1200 GS (once my harley has sold!) and have a complete Newb question.

Whats the difference between the GS and GSA?

I know the paints different on new models and the wheels (I love the spoked ones!) but what else?

cheers

GSA has a much larger tank, bigger screen and 'winglets', taller longer travel suspension, metal rather than plastic luggage, foglights, metal spikey footpegs, engine bars, head covers, handlebar cross brace and spoked wheels. Everything else is the same.

Well you know the paint colours.... you are over halfway there.

http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/uk/en/index.html

Click on motorcycles (top left), sub menu: Enduro. Then technical data (or whatever takes your fancy).

Or visit a dealer.... It's their job to answer technical questions like yours..... Again, go to BuMW website, click on Dealers, enter 'Newmarket' as the 'Where are you near?" question... Some suggestions (all polite) will pop up. It will be a nice day out for you.

PS Everyone knows the real difference is the size of one's testicles. Or is it the abilty to talk the most bollux? I forget which.

PPS Welcome, by the way, to the house of fun.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the comments.

I think i will be looking for a GSA just because i like the extras.

I went to a local dealer and to be honest they wherent the most helpful.

I tried a 1150GS and 1200GS but when i asked about the GSA they where a bit vague.

They did help me make up my mind.

1) I want a GSA
2) I am not fussed if its used (as long as mileage isnt galactic)
3) No way would i P/X my Harley for the sums they where talking (50% of market value!)

I cant wait to get one ;)

....Even if I am not quite sure what it is....

Excellent :thumb2

There is a subscriber on this site (Indecisive) who thinks he is looking for a HD and has a 1200GSA (in very good nick) he might be wanting to get rid of*.... You may be in luck.... Not a million miles away from you, either.

* You never can quite tell with him.

Don't be too put off by the mileage.

I have heard it said before that the third owner of a GS gets the best bike!!

My 07 GSA has c.33k miles in runs better/smoother/faster than the demo bike a tried that had less than 2k on the clock

mnnnn Richard, are you sure about our Tom :D

Stick with the Harley, better build quality (BM's will dissapoint), better residuals along with far more character and grin factor.
GSA is just a means of transport.

Sorry it had to be said

Ride one this weekend

Wollaston (Northampton) phoned me yesterday and asked if I fancied riding their bikes this weekend.

Call them (Steve Wong) and arrange a ride on each this weekend.

They are letting me have a K1300.............

Back to original question ..

In summary. GSA is a bigger penis extension. You can do everything you need to do with a Honda 125 but if you want to look like Ewan McG and need compensate for a small willy then you NEED a GSA. You will buy a GS then when you meet a "smaller" gent with a GSA (like me) .. you will wish you bought the GSA.

The real translation:
1. Taller = more likely to drop it in a car park
2. Bigger tank = your arse or you will want to stop after 80 miles anyway
3. Bigger screen = somewhere to mount your Zumo
4. Winglets = nice looking bit of plastic, not sure what it does

I own a GSA for the exact reason above. I am just not ashamed to admit that it is all about ego and NOTHING about rationale this or that. :D

Mines is for sale but it will be what you call "galactic" miles.

Here is the most useful advice = don't buy at a dealer. There are great deals to be had with private sellers. Why let a dealer make a margin when there are no differences. BMW own warranty can be extended but give you want a non-galactic miles one, it will most likely be within the original warranty. So you really get no benefit from getting it at a dealer.

Went and saw a mates GSA last night (i was never sure if he had a GS or GSA)

Have to admit it does tick all the boxes.

The reason i am flogging the HOG (Fatboy) is partly due to whats been mentioned above about it being an ornament :)

I spent a small fortune (£19k) having it airbushed, custom bits made e.t.c. and it looks amazing. But its had so much money thrown at it i cant get past that when looking at it. Riding it is great fun (but at 6ft 5in even the HOG isnt the most comfortable riding position) But because its more of a show bike I HAVE to avoid all bad weather to the point that unless its 100% sun all day i cant risk it getting mucky (and spending 3 hours polishing it after).

its taken the fun of riding away having such a smart bike.

I know the GSA is more a commuter bike but i have never been into roaring about at 130mph and 0-60 in a blink (Too many mates with injuries or not about anymore!). I liked the laid back riding on the GS and huge grin when i p*ssed off the hairdresser/banker in the boxter on my test ride when he thought i couldnt keep up.

the Harley is realisticaly priced but there isnt much of a forum scene in the UK to advertise it, its all US based. Its in MCN and Fleabay at the moment. Fleabay...I dont know whether to cry or laugh at what i am being asked.

Would i strip it as they only want the painted tins or seat?
