Hello! I have a 2012 G650gs, and am looking to fit some robust plastic panniers. It looks like a few members here have used the peli cases, but I am not sure of what rack I can use...help!

Thanks Tosh!

Lots of food for thought there. I am leaning towards a Givi PL mount with 2 x 1450 or 1430. Any advice for fixing/other size panniers?
It is insanity!

Ok lets start from scratch, exactly what boxes do YOU want on your bike... What ones do you like the look of..

Hmm...

The 1430s look ideal to me, but then again I have never ridden with panniers so I cannot say whether they are "too" wide. I like a top loading pannier, but I am flexible! The width of the boxes is 244mm each according to Pelican. I saw someone on here had a pair of 1550s, they are 206mm wide each. Your thoughts?

When you are loaded up you don't notice the weight or width when riding .. its only at very slow speeds that they become noticeable..
The size is up to you really, but people always take too much stuff, stuff that's not needed just wanted for a little luxury...
The width of the bike and panniers make no difference because when you filter you are very very aware that you are a "wide load" so filtering is taken with caution...
So it up to you what boxes you want...
As for pannier rails the givi rails wont fit, due to the little lugs on them..
So sw motec, touratec or basically any other make but NOT givi..
The fixings..Ohh dear, there are hundreds, most use the touratec pucks, search online for videos on the pucks..You can buy these direct from them as a kit..Or you can bolt them on directly to the frames if you wish..the only problem then is you will have to ride everywhere with them attached, then once you get home you unbolt them and put them in the corner to collect dust for another 12 months...

Pucks?

Er... what are they?!? I was looking at 4 u-bolts on each!

Pannier width

Personal choice but if you keep them the same width or narrower than the bars, you know the whole bike will fit through when filtering. :thumb

Unless the bars go over the car mirrors and the panniers take them out...... :aidan
