Sorry to do yet another thread on screens.. but has anyone tried this? As good as the TT one?

Not exactly pretty, but cheap enough at 45 quids, easy to fit and unlike TT I know that if I order one I'll have it in a couple of days.

Any thoughts?

I made my own using Makrolon polycarbonate and fixed with 3M Dual Lock . I found it reduced the buffeting around my head but didn't reduce the noise. If you wish I can drop it in the post to you. Have now fitted Tobinators and cut an inch off the top of my screen instead - much quieter and no buffeting.

Thanks suarvharv, a generous offer.... but it's really noise reduction I'm after, buffetting's not much of a problem. Earplugs are fine for a long ride, but a pain for my half-hour commute. I'd also like to be able to ride open-visor without getting flies in my teeth!

Did you try the Tobinators alone before trimming the screen?

I did try Tobinators on their own and they sorted the buffeting, but not the noise. The one disadvantage of my solution is I have to keep my visor closed around town now.

I spoke to an 'older gentleman' at SPC today about wind noise - he had one of these fitted.....

... but reckoned it was hopeless, didn't help at all.

So still looking

Try a Nippy Norman screen, they are about 6inch taller & 1 inch wider, & a nice clean shape. I am 5' 11" with std. seat on lowest setting, and the screen is very good.

I bought one of those gizmo's.

I'm 6'4", the bike is the 1150 Adventure, with Tobinators fitted.

The tobinators dial out some of the buffeting (I haven't found the ideal position yet), and the screen top helps a bit more. It also helps to reduce the wind noise but not a complete solution.

I thought for the money it was good value - it is ugly but so is the bike - that's the beauty - looking at the engineering not just the plastic. It is cheaper than an expensive mistake with a screen. I'd buy a screen if I new it would solve my problems, but it could take a number of screens to get it right - and I don't have money to burn

The screen top can make more turbulence for pillions (I have been reliably informed by 'The Management')

I hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks Dave... I might just try one and risk 40quid. Like you, if I knew a particular screen would work for me I'd be happy to shell out for one... but there doesn't seem to be one that suits everybody so I'm loath to spend too much for a try-out.

A few q's about the NN extension thinghy...
1) does if fit securely?
2) any chance of it damaging the screen (it seems like a mighty small contact area where it clips to the main screen)?
3) does it leave any marks if you change your mind an take it off?
4) does it vibrate much?

(what's this, 20 questions?? ;) )

Tio answer your 20 questions:

1) does if fit securely?

seems too, I've not tightened it up much, and bearing in mind that it's designed for the 122, and the 1150 seems to have more curvature on the screen it seems OK to me.

2) any chance of it damaging the screen (it seems like a mighty small contact area where it clips to the main screen)?

I guess it could damage the screen, but you could fit a rubber patch to prevent the metal contacting the screen. I guess the big problem would be an impact!! but then the screen would probably be knackered anyway.

3) does it leave any marks if you change your mind an take it off?

I haven't tried, but again if you used rubber patch / part of inner tube type fixing it'd probably be OK

4) does it vibrate much?

Does it vibrate - yes but so does the screen, it's not bad, and it'll all depend on what angle you've got it fixed at, and what the terrain is. I haven't noticed it being a distraction, other than the extended height of the screen.

I certainly haven't felt the need to remove it, so I guess it must be an improvement. Lets hope I don't change my mind :)

Cheers

Don't bother!

It's similar to the Touratech one. Tried that - complete waste of money. Tried the Laminar Lip and that DID work. But not well enough.
The the Tobinators - problem solved...

a little known fact

motorbikes are windy and noisy
