I have just bought a brand new old stock navigator 2 but cannot get any sound at all from the unit, either voice or key press sounds.I have checked the obvious things like the volume level and menu settings but still nothing. Can anyone help??????

The device itself does not have a speaker built into it. To hear sound, you need to connect some kind of speaker to it - either a headset, earphone, or small amplified spearker. I don't know whether the Navigator II comes packaged with a Garmin automobile 12 volt power outlet that includes a speaker with it. If you do have a cable that has what looks like a very large 12 volt plug on the end of it, go plug that into your car, and hook the GPSR up there - see if you get any sound out of the speaker that is integral to the 12 volt plug.

Sound

The Nav 11 comes only with Fag lighter power lead cut off end fit BMW plug or Hard wire to batt, car plug with speaker is extra. BM do helmet speakers and lead to unit.

Thanks for the quick response.I do have a car power socket with speaker attached however it is for my ique 3600,and is a different connection to the nav 2.The nav 2 was only supplied with the car cum bike 12v power adaptor.Looks like I will have to invest in an earpiece!!Thanks again.

do a search for the same problem with Garmin 2610, Im assuming the Nav II is the same so the fix should be the same.

For what it's worth - try riding around and using the GPSR without the sound for a while, and see if that is satisfactory for you. I really don't like the audio prompts at all - I find that they are distracting, and that it takes much longer to absorb information that is spoken than it takes to have a quick look at the screen to see what is coming up.

Just my personal experience...

Have to say I agree with Pan, I spent hours hard wiring my GPRS to the intercom and loved every minute of it, Gadgets are us.

But now that its all wired up and I have used it a couple of times the hassle of having to wire myself to the bike every time and the annoying sound of the voice prompts ever few mins. Well lets just say I don’t bother now, I just set my destination and only look down at the map occasionally to get my bearings.

Here's another thought respecting voice prompts on a motorcycle: Don't forget that you can call up the 'next turn' visual prompt at any time just by pressing the SPEAK key on any of the Garmin GPSRs. This means that if you ever are a bit unsure of what to do next, you press that key, and you will get an instant picture (with accompanying text) showing your next leg change. For me, that's more than sufficient.

I sometimes turn the voice prompts on when I am using the GPSR in a car and I am doing a long drive on a motorway - under those circumstances, the prompt is useful, because it wakes me up in sufficient time to ensure I don't miss my exit. When we are riding motos, we are usually a bit more alert - unless, of course, we have an intercom or music system hooked up in our helmets... :D
