I fitted my 2720 bike kit today. I liked the Garmin cradle and the short RAM mount was ideal. However, I wired it into my autocom and I can't get any sound out of it. I believe the sound cable is ok as I've used it on my portable CD player. I had to use a maplin 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter as the cable has 3.5mm male connectors and the Garmin audio out is 2.5mm.

When I try it in the music socket on the autocom I just get buzzing and when I use the phone socket I don't get anything.

Anybody help ????

Colin.

sounds like a ground loop problem... if the CD was battery powered, and the Garmin is powered by the bike...

If the above is true, you need a "ground loop isolator" thingy... maplins sell them, as to Autocom.

Had the same problem, called Autocom very helpful, they said I needed part no 1282 and cable part no 1294 cost £29. The 1282 has 2 sockets and a 4 pole 3.5mm plug for the Autocom unit with some electronics inside. Socket A is for the GPS and socket B for a mobile phone, both can be connected to the Autocom unit at the same time. The 1294 cable has a 2 pole 2.5mm male plug at one end and a 3 pole 3.5mm male at the other. More at

Hope this helps

Hi,
It could be the same as the problem I had connecting my Quest 1 with Garmin mount to my Autocom. The 3.5mm audio output socket on the Garmin mount is connected in a different way to normal, say MP3 players and the like. The audio comes out on the 'tip' and 'ring' and not the 'screen' connections, so when a normal lead is connected to the Autocom input the audio from the GPS is shorted out. I ended up making a lead that connected the Garmin to the unused 5 pin DIN input of the Autocom. Worked really well, bits available from Maplin.
Hope this is some help

Thanks Guys,
You've all been an enormous help. I spoke to Autocom in the end and went for the same set-up as emjay.

Cheers, Colin.
