no sound

Ever since Mrs Den, "wiped" the keyboard with a "duster", the sound has gone. Light on speakers still comes on, and when the plug is twiddled the speaker crackles. Wee box comes up sometimes saying that no sound equiment connected.
Simple solution anyone, a button to press maybe ?

Which Operating System ?
What make/model of computer ?

Sound can sometimes be muted or reduced by key presses - e.g. on my (Dell) laptop FN (function key) + End will toggle the "mute" and there are other key combinations for increase/decrease volume - do you have these (usually marked as such) keys ?

Do you (still?) see a "Volume Icon" in the system tray - try Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices - see if you can get the volume control back - it may have somehow muted or reduced volume.

go to your control panel via the star button and double-click 'sound and audio devices' check that the mute box is not ticked on the volume tab then check the audio tab and ensure your sound card details are in the box. Click on the volume tab and again ensure mute is not ticked.

Thanks for the advice, but its sorted now.
Switched it off, removed the lid, looked at it, switched it on again, HEY PRESTO, its working.
