Hi everyone been out for a run tonight had no speedo reading and brake failure warning light stayed on,brakes were fine pulled over and restarted bike and everything was fine:confused:new to the gs so be patient its a 06.Boo

Sounds like you fixed it with the same method applied to all electrical devises.

Hope it stays fixed and nobody posts that it's the first sign of something worse.

:D you answer your own problem :comfort

no speedo

it might be worth checking the rear abs sensor/ wiring, and play in rear wheel
the speedo picks up on the back wheel and the abs will fault if it loses a signal,,

I've an 06 gsa and had the same problem but with loss of 80% of brakes. switch off and on and then all ok again. only happed when i had one of the brakes on for a while, at traffic lights etc. bath road bmw said it was corrosion on the rear brake light as it's pretty much open to the element. i had a bucket load of rear brake light error codes. changed the contacts and bulb and been ok for the past year although i've also done a diy cover to protect the contacts.

I have had one or two times when the light has come on. The first time I was up in the mountains and it came on as I braked for the first bend. It would not go off after I stoped and restarted the bike.. but I was on a steep down hill and had held it on the brake when it went through its check. I have since found out that this causes a problem in itself! Had to drive home with virtually no brakes. I returned to the dealer who checked it out and returned it to me with the light off and brakes working fine. The other times it happened I just switched it off and then on again and the fault cleared so I think it must be an electrical fault some where. I worry about these kind of things when you know the price of the replacement parts:eek

could be the first sign of a final drive problem, metal swarf from the bearings collect on the magnetic sensor causing interferance:eek, pop the sensor out and see if it is covered in metal swarf.if it is it will need overhauling.it just so happens i can do that for you:thumb2

I had this on my 2006 GS about 2 years back. The problem was due to the battery getting low, although the bike started OK. However with the control unit on the bike picking up a low battery state of charge, the Canbus deactivated the ABS and Speedo (I think the logic is that this places less demand on the available battery reserves).

I found that after giving the battery a good charge (decent run or charger) when I restarted everything was back to normal. I had to do this a few times and then opted to change the battery.

Touching wood there had been no recurrence.

Hi Checked everything out and it was the battery being low:rolleyes: so charged it up and everything seems fine thanks again Boo:thumb2
