My GSA when I get it, will be kept in Spain. The first 3 kms in any direction from my house is on non tarmac road..... often quite muddy when it rains (not often though) and therefore nobbly tyres seem appropriate.

What are these tyres like to ride on tarmac all year round..... what mileage can you expect if they spend most of their time on conventional roads....are they safe if caught in a sudden downpour????

Any thoughts on this greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Stuart.. you could try a set of TKC 80's ;)

they won't last quite as long as a pair of Tourances but you'll still get a decent mileage out of them....

There's tossers on here that swear by them... grip wise they're pretty good but not the same feel as road biased tyres on tarmac.....just.... different...

I tried a pair and cos I'm a short arse I was convinced it made my GSA even taller :ymca

look the biz though :D

If you are a throttle jockey then you'll eat a set of TKC's in 2500 miles. I get about 3500-4000 out of mine.

Speed rated to 100mph max.

The roads in Spain are pretty slippy when wet and the off road is usually dry so Tourances would be ok until it get's rocky.

Tourances are pretty capable off road in the dry.:thumb

TKC's are twitchy on wet ironwork, banding and some white lines.

They're not unpredictable though and they can be ridden harder than most people can ride- and they are superb off road on everything other than sticky (clay) type mud...otherwise, excellent.

I get 4.5 to 5k on a rear and maybe 7-8k on a front.

The first 200 miles it feels like you're riding on marbles as the edges of the blocks wear in but after that they wear progressively and although they will cup if used hard, this doesn't affect the grip too much until it gets quite extreme.

We carry TKC's on the support Landy and it's what we recommend to people for or trips as they're still superb on road tyres, well up to handling twisties as well as the off road stuff.

Once you've fitted them, you'll not take them off :)

Thanks for all your responses. Very Helpful.

I am not really a heavy throttle merchant..... preferring to pootle along to enjoy the terrain. However I make the trip home (UK) perhaps twice a year and this would involve heavy tarmac work and then I do gun it a bit.

Thanks again for the tips.

Cheers Stuart:clap

Stuart, if I were you I'd try a set... if you don't like them they'll soon sell on here... then you'll know :thumb

Thats what I did ... scratched the itch :augie

As has been said already.

I get the same kind of mileage as I did from my Anakees. Over 11000 miles from the rear and up wards of 16000 from the front.
(If I used the bike solely for playing I guess I'd get about the same as most 4-5000 mls. But most of my mileage is done sub 30 MPH)

I like the TKC's they're good all round and only get a little iffy on very salty winter roads.

When new they have an uncertain feel, but if you let yourself trust them (stay loose on the bars) you will find they get better and better. :thumb2
