When i brake hard to a stop, I can hear a sort of screetchy squeek from the fron end, the same happens of I dab the brakes firmly. I can only hear this at low speeds but it may happen all the time. It doesn't seem to affect the bike's handling. Any ideas whats causing it??

Is my bike fukced??

Does anyone else's bike do this?:confused:

oh, mines a 2003 1150 GS with ABS and servo.

Pull the pads out of the calipers and have a look at them.

Or just scrap the bike...sounds like the whole thing's totalled:augie

In a car I'd smear some copper slip on the back to the pads to stop the rattle.

Don't the 1150s have an anti rattle clip?

Maybe birds have nested in your headlamp housing. Everytime you brake, the eggs are in danger of tipping out of the nest, so the mummy bird lets out a loud shreik ... or loud tweet ( depending on species) in order to warn you of the danger your braking poses to her unborn chicks ... and hence, possibly adding to global warming due to altering the natural progression of the annual spring bird reproduction cycle.

Strange noise...

I know this may sound a bit mad but is your bike very low on petrol?
I had the same thing with my bike, with the exact same sound you are describing. It turned out the tank was so low, that when I braked the fuel pump would make a loud straining noise as if being starved of fuel when it all went to the front.
Mad...

or following Den's answer, could it be that you have a couple of mice that use your discs as a training wheel, everytime you brake your discs are heating up and the mice squeek because there tootsies hurt :D

Could be a bit of contaminent the disc, it will probly disappear soon, there is a trick if its afecting the brake performance, carry a bottle of water on the bike, ride down the road with the brake on gently for 200 yards and stop the bike, tip the water on the disc and it will steam in the heat, that will shift most things from silicone spray to brake fluid on the disc:thumb2

Its not really a brake noise, you hear the sound as a loud creak when the front dives (as slight as the dive is) which made me think its suspension, but I'll try the brake tests first when i'm aff the night shift.:thumb2

Is it a kind of hissing noise from the front brakes? Mine does it with whatever brake pads its got in at the mo. Been doing it for the last 5000 miles and nowts fell off!

check the paralever ball joint it ok and the bolts holding the bridge is tight

Ian - This might seem a bit daft, but how will I know if the ball joint is cattled?:blast
I'll check its tight just now.

Thanks again.

I dont know :D

Seems like you need to check all suspension bolts and that the ball joint is ok, with particular attention to the boot and that there no obvious movement :thumb2

Yodagoat,

Have you checked your head stock bearings...?

Mine has been making the squeek noise too, which I origninally thought was connected to the forks, its since turned into more of an alternator belt squeal until the engine is warmed up, then it stops altogether...

I had the belt changed at 60K service and she's done another 28K since then, so its in for some fettling before our run to the Alps.. I'll let you know what the diagnosis is...
