Just wondering if there is anyway of identifing which helmets are quieter than others. I have a Shark (my first helmet) and it seems noisy in almost every configuration, worst when the visor is fully open, best (but still not great) when closed.

It does not have a seal under the chin, though is full face, would that make much of a difference?

Even with plugs it sounds noisy.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Get better ear plugs. I've got a v.quiet helmet (Schuberth S1) and a noisy helmet (Arai Astro R) and with decent earplugs in there is virtually nothing between them.

Pink Floyd on the iPod

Seriously though, my Shoei XR1000 is one of the quieter lids I've owned.

Shoei

Quieter than Arai.. had a brainstorm and H1 haydon rep. Still good lids, and lasted well. Very comfy too for my head shape. Arai not quite so comfy.

My Shoei RF 900 is the quietest lid I have, followed by my Caberg and than the Arai RX7 Corsair. The best thing to do is invest in good earplugs regardless of the lid you own. Just my 0.02 cts

Rider which Caberg have you got, I'll be replacing a Roof boxer shortly and like the look of the Justissimo, anything is going to be quieter than the Roof so it'll be an improvement whatever.

I have a scuberth c2, quiet as feck, its why i bought it, costly though, fits me well, but others have said they are tight if you get your usual size :nenau

Ride magazine did a review of helmets about two months ago focussed on noise, if you can find a copy. I might have one here I can scan in, will have a look.

I have a Caberg Justissimo (the flip with the built-in pull-down sunshade), had it for about 6 months now, replaced an Arai Quantum F. For the money (£145) I have been very impressed with it, it's comfortable and seems to be well finished. Can ride along up to 45-50 with it flipped up and the sunshade is fantastic. Anti-mist coating works well. It's about as quiet as the Quantum (maybe a little noisier), so not the quietest out there, but flip helmets seem to be noisier. Yes I'd recommend it - I have the matt black which is cool! Ref noise - another tosser suggested pushing earplugs in a little further (how much further you may ask? If you feel the end in your nostril, that's probably a little too far.... :D ) and that really does make a big difference! I have an 1150 and with my tobinators on a calm day 85-90 cruising is fine.
