Seem to have a bearing noise between 40 - 60 mph.

Dont know weather its tyres or wheel bearing. Runing on michelin anakee, Bike has only done 4100 miles.
Any one else have these problems???? seems to low milage for bearings.

my old worn tyres made a bit o noise, when leaning over for the twisties, a new set of the same make, metzeler tourance, and all is quiet again. 04 R12GS.

Take it back to the dealer....simples:thumb

Had the same drone.

Changed to Conti Road Attacks and the noise went away....bin the Anakees's, and the noise will go away!

Anakee's

I have Anakee's on my 07 which I bought at 4/4k and kept thinking I had bearing noise from the rear of even a slight vibration! But as this was usually when I was far from home and fully loaded I figure it was me being a prat :augie and decided to be a bit more C'est la vie, at least until the warranty ends anyway:rolleyes:

Had same issue on my -08. Went to dealer, he said FD has to be replaced because of play in rear wheel bearing. New FD: same noise when turning. My tires are very worn trailattacks.

I could feel a vibration from my rear when cornering, but only when 2 up (fnaar fnaar, gnuk gnuk). There was no noise though.

I took it back to the dealer, who said it was the tyres. BOLLOCKS I thought, as it's on Conti Trail Attack, and they aren't a "chunky" tyre.

So I ordered a new Conti ROAD Attack in 160/60x17. Fitted it myself, and the vibration is gone.

There was no (or very little) play in the rear bearing.

The bigger rear tyre has more rubber on the road when leant over.

yes try the tyres first before you go radical. What I reckon you hear is a swooshing noise made by tyres. 40-60mph simply because at higher speeds the windrush masks it.

A rear bearing noise would be harsher and possibly whinier:aidan

and is way too early for bearings at 4k miles indeed unless you got a dud...

Tractor noises

After 7 years riding GS's (and a great many BMW's before) i have given up trying to analyse noises, rumbles and vibrations. There are a wonderful collection and they all seem to come and go - but I do agree that tyres are often the cause of increased vibration. If a new noise arrives and it seems serious take it to a dealer and an experienced mechanic will tell straightaway if there is anything wrong.
