None of your oilhead bling here - Harsh reality pics please

The old BM set to work collecting firewood in 91 ish . it was a great bike except for snapping the shaft at 40k ish , but not surprising given the thrashing it got. :D IMG_5031.jpeg

David Nimrod and his GS this morning

I liked David, shame he's not about anymore.
Anyone heard from him?

Some folk know this bike. I'm only posting this because today it rose from the ashes - after very long hibernation in the corner of my garage.

The skill in creating this bike from an RT80 is very impressive.

I acquired it in 2017 and intended to enjoy some tootling. However on only my 5th ride, not far from home, the clutch stopped working. Solid.
I didn't know the exact problem immediately and limped home. Pulling the bike apart exposed the problem.
The flywheel had decided to detach itself from the crankshaft. All 5 bolts sheared.

I was Scunnered! (not sure if folk south of the border get Scunnered)

Slipping a heart attack in along the way meant I stayed Scunnered.

Over a couple of years I spent a small fortune having the engine rebuilt. This needed fixed. That needed fixed.

Bike remained in the naughty corner, though it had a good as new engine.

Over many years my family members have nagged me or joked with me about my unused Number 2 bike.

This week my older son who has the skill, probably contracted by my wife, decided he could spare some time to end this saga so I became Apprentice to the Master and a couple of shifts attached a lot of loose wires then the easier nut and bolt stuff like exhaust system, carbs, fuel tank and pipes.

Anyone who's seen the bike will know it is Keyless with a Moto Gadget control device plus a Speedhut GPS Speedo.

The incomplete bike spun over first time with a good spark, but the battery didn't hold a full charge so we used a NoCo battery to jump start it (well it started a VW van one day).

Hey Presto - we have a running bike. It seemed a bit quieter than I remember.

I've sorted out the V5 with DVLA and it's now registered as Historic, Red with Zero MOTs and Zero road tax. I can jump on as soon as I fix the battery situation.

ps - guess which picture was taken in 2017

Lovely to see this bike out again. I remember watching parts of its build.
And today I took it for a short shake down ride. Screwdriver in pocket so I could turn down the tick over in a side street a couple of miles from home. Such a strange riding position compared with my No.1 bike (on which I’ve just enjoyed a 155 mile jolly on a quiet afternoon). No cruise. Stiff throttle. Odd leg positioning. I know I couldn’t travel far on it.

One grandson was passing and repeated a photo when he sat on it in 2017 😂
