I am planning a trip to Nordkapp or just a tour of Norway / Sweden.

Planning on going in June/July (is this the best time to go?)

I understand that they have a mid-summer festival at Nordkapp, is it worth going (remembering that I can't spend too much time there!)?.

I am considering a crossing to Kristiansand (to save a little time), and then riding up the west coast of Norway, via Trondheim, up to Nordkapp.

Return journey back to Gothenburg (or Kristiansand) would be on the eastern coast of Sweden, following the Gulf of Bothnia (Baltic Sea) via Stockholm.

Has anyone done this before?

Can anyone give me any hints and tips on what or what not to do? What to see/miss?

Anyone interested in doing the same?

Anyone going there anyway, and looking for company or wouldn't mind someone tagging along?

What's the form? I intend to camp out to save money.
I regularly go camping, as I can't afford to pay for a hotel every weekend I am away diving (most of the summer), but have never camped from a bike.

How much are campsites vs. Hotels or chalets? Is it worth it?

I have a quote on the ferry cost, but how much is fuel etc,.??

Cheers all,

Hi form spain

Im leaving on 10-11 july to Nordcapp, and plannig something similar to you (camping, no hotels, f650).

I think we could met there and have a beer.

Let me know to [email protected] as soon as possible

The first part of your route will be brilliant, especially if you can follow the west coast up near the Lofoten Islands....but the second part, down the east coast of Sweden, I found very disappointing after Norway...just a load of trees and fairly straight roads.
I`d find another way back through Norway or go back the way you came.

Looking at my map of Norway there do not seem to be too many options in the North. Just the E6 main road. At least you'll be looking the other way when coming back down.

I'll be going up there from July 26th for 2 weeks.

There is a ferry that runs from Bergen to Kirkenes and calls in at most of the ports along the coast (including Honningsvag nr Nordkapp). I spoke with a chap who went North on the E6 to Kirkenes and came back to Narvik on the ferry. The scenery from the ferry was fantastic.
I`ll be sorely tempted to do that the next time I go.

Welcome to Norway! :)

The ferry:

Båt = boat
Hurtig = fast, but it's not that fast:
6-7 days from Bergen to Kirkenes!

But you don't have to be on board all that time:
You can take the Hurtigruten only a little bit, no lugar, if you like.

If any of you are in Oslo / at the camp site FjordCamp:
Look for a blue Scarver!

Take a closer look at the map for the RV 17 Coastal route....
more ferries, but worthwhile!

Sadly, due to financial restrictions (Yup, I'm broke!) I can't do a Sweden trip this year.

However, I am planning a trip around northern Scotland (See separate posts in Beakchat and in Travel section (and now in Scotland section...).

So, if anyone is interested...

Ta,

Mike.
