Sorry if this is a bit basic but I have a Garmin 2610 on my GS. Not having any kind of helmet audio system I bought a single earpiece from Maplins. In order to bring the two together I have an adaptor in circuit as the coax plugs are different sizes. This fix was featured on this very website. The result can be wonderful, but often breaks down to intermittent - just when you need it most. Fiddling with the plug connections will restore the circuit but I occasionally need to steer as well!

Can anyone suggest an easy fix for this tempremental connection? Somebody must have sorted this problem already, maybe with a set up that would do the job straight out of the box? Or do I need to rewire the cheap'n cheerful Maplins earpiece with a new plug to eliminate the adaptor plug?

I hate soldering those tiny plugs, so I would probably start with the things in my garage. First a good spray of electrical contact cleaner then wrap the conections in some electricians self-amalgamating tape to make a waterproof connection. I use this method successfully on my GPS-Autocom connection.

The problem is the socket on the Garmin power/audio flylead from the 2610. Find one or two washers that just slip over the post on the jack-plug that pushes into this socket and drop them on the shaft before inserting it (fnarr, fnarr). This will "load" the plug against the socket and give you a nice tight connection (ooh-err!).
