Hi

Started planning next years trip for June/July:
It is assuming a return trip from Portsmouth to either Cherbourg or Caen.

Day 1: Home to Portsmouth, high-speed ferry, then to Oradour.

Day 2: Down to Millau. A short day of about 160 miles to do the tourist bit and deviate off slightly to the Gorges Du Tarn.

Day 3. Millau to Cannes via Mont Ventoux and Grande Canyon. About 250 miles.

Day 4. Playing on Route de Napoleon. A day playing but probably 250 - 300 miles

Day 5: N route back to port, about 250 - 300.plus the ride back from Portsmouth

Having got an extended pass out from SWMBO could anyone suggest somewhere north of the Route Napoleon that is worth visiting please or any additions to the proposed route that are worthwhile.

If I new how to reduce the .gpx file size I would attach it.:eyesdown

Many thanks

Remove any waypoints / routes that aren't actually needed for the post. Or remove half the waypoints / routes and post two messages with each half in.

Thought about heading roughly due north and then following the France / Belgium border, which follows the Meuse etc and is scenic and bendy :)

Have you a Garmin?, if so can send you the routes we did this year which is the reverse of you're trip for ideas if you wish, PM me with E-Mail and will send then as attachments if this helps.

The D900 from Digne les bains north to the big lake is a fantastic road.Turn right at the top towards Barcelonnette and you have the col de la bonnette on the right and a mass of great roads. On the left you have the col de vars and a bit further up you have the Col D'Izoard, well worth a ride.Briancon is a lovelly old town worth a visit too. Loads around that area. :thumb

+1 on that road :thumb
quiet, good surface and you ride through a high alpine plain with hay stacks a la Van Gogh, well pretty

Big thanks

Many thanks for all the input. I can plan to my hearts content:clap

Judging from other posts I think the area could be GS central next summer:bounce1

Def worth branching off Route Napoleon at Castellane to ride around the Gorge du Verdun if you've not been round it before.

Needs a good half day to do it justice though.

Also totally agree on the D900.

We left the RN at Digne to ride the D900 and rejoined the RN at Gap.

The D900 was fab.
