Afternoon all,

Doing a bit of trip planning and looking for any recommendations for places for this time around in Northern Portugal. I've stayed in Braganca, Miranda Del Duero and Viana do Castelo on previous trips.
Any other nuggets out there? I love Portugal, I do

Cheers

There are some great roads that take you from Northern Spain into Northern Portugal to the town of Chaves. Nice town with good bars and restaurants.

Hay stayed in Adpropeixe, Portugal last year had a few beers in the marina! Went in May last year! Warning all 4 campsites were shut so stayed in a hotel! Unfortunately a bus load of German students also stayed there!!!!;-) all joking aside there is a road the n308 it's a little steep and bumpy but there is a great waterfall up there and you go through an old spain Portugal boarder! It was great! :clap

Cheers.. funny you should mention that as I was looking at it on the map. I'm going to take that in. Looks like a decent run down the N-308 :beerjug:

+1 for Chaves (Hotel Forte de Sao Francisco - not cheap but excellent value)

Also Guarda (Hotel Santos - total contrast, more like a hostel but very nice and excellent location)

Portugal

Try La Alberca Spain, close to Portugal, great roads, best road, one heading south. La Alberca is very unique. Google, I love biking in Portugal, reached the Algarve last year for a few days relaxing. Placencia Spain, South west of Madrid, again not far from Portugal. :)

Can recommend this hotel in Portugal.
We stayed at this place in 2011 on the way back from the Moto GP in Estoril.
Very nice hotel and food, great roads around the area.
Hotel Rural Quinta da Geia
Oliveira do Hospital

For be different you can stay in the Pinhão area, next to Douro river.

I've just been and can recommend pinhao, also I stayed at Douro palace spa hotel, you have to do at least 1 night, it's expensive (77 euro) but what a place!!!

Also have a steak in Braganca, O Abel, best t bone I ever had!!
