Oil prices have dropped, and so has the NOK. You now get appr. 30% more for your GBP here than you did a year ago. Time to do the trip?

Too late for me. Did the trip last year. Out of interest though ... How much per liter for petrol now? In NoK?

I had just decided to head back to the Alps this year. Now you have thrown a curve ball...

I went last year to Nordkapp and camped almost all the way,
Was going to go again this year with my wife.
Does anyone know if it would be a reasonable expectation that we could get hytter,s each night in July/August?

Interesting thread this, as Norway has always been on my list but cost have put me off somewhat.

I fancy heading to Tromso to take part in the Midnight sun Marathon on 20th June. Options are to fly or if I took the bike, any thoughts on how long you need to get as far up a Tromso?

Cheers

stujw70; It's about 1700 km / 24h. A bit longer, but faster, through Sweden.

Price of gas varies a bit throughout the week and county. I think paid 14.50 for 98 (no etanol) today, believe I saw 12.50 for 95. (I must admit I don't give it too much attention, that is not where the cost is anyway.)

Hytter is seldom a problem, but you may want to bring a small tent or a larger credit card, just in case.

A little tip: If you look up Peak Rider, he is organizing a trip this summer with bike shipping so you can just fly in and out and not spend half your vacation on ferrys and boring motorways. The tour outline looks very nice (and familiar ;) ).

Beyond knowing where Norway is and liking the look of some photos etc I am totally clueless so will definitely need to do research!

For starters I would get the ferry from Harwich to the Hook as I a live less than 30 miles from Harwich. Beyond that I need to get my learn on!

Just did a farm visit on Hogmanany for a Norwegian GS'er and friend of mine from Haugesund and last time I visited him was in 2008 on the ferry just before it stopped....................I've been to Iceland five times since then because it's good value aswell with between 230 ISK and 190 ISK to the £

Norway...........It's a beautiful country to visit and I've been up to the Nordkapp twice over the years aswell as Kirkenes and the Russian border at Grense Jacobselve but there's so much to do and see in fjord Norway without going all the way to the top! :thumb

I think you'll find DFDS pulled the plug on Harwich/Esbjerg.

That leaves:

Hull/Roterdam or Newcastle/Imjuiden.

So far...

This company are setting out to offer a service from Easter 2015

Dunno what like it will be but I recon to give it a go at the end of June, if they do get it up and running

I was thinking of Harwich to the Hook of Holland. Not convinced about Regina. They seem to be lacking in substance.

Cheers,

Certainly a new venture, but on the face of it very good value !
I would think that if it does get up and running there will be some reviews to give a clue as to the usefulness of their offering.
I did the Nordkapp as a road trip all the way from sunny Scotland in June, and the Dennmark Norway bit was good But the rest I could take or leave
Particularly Belgium:barf so I would be prepared to give the benefit of the doubt I. This case :thumb2
