I've seen the below countless times on ads (You can select to have 'motorwatch' on your Autotrader ads and it shows what the previous prices have been) A bike for sale for nigh on 8 months. Didn't sell to start with...so the dealer puts the price up. Still not selling? Put the price up again...and again before dropping it in midwinter...for more than it was first advertised at. Weird...what am I missing?

Depends how they are funding their stock.
If they are borrowing on an open credit line then they will probably be expected to provide a monthly stock valuation.
If they were factoring their finance then essentially its against the interest payable on the stock.
It can be in their interest to show a higher retail price in order to "prove" the stock valuation.
And then there`s the marketeers viewpoint........

Cheers for that.

It 'reads' very oddly as an outsider.

No details but it's a Typical mistake car or bike dealers make.

Rather than keep turning over business on a smaller margins they sit making nothing on the hope of selling at a higher margin.

I can’t see where to enable that feature

Dynamic pricing - Superbike Factory by any chance?

Slow stock gets shifted around the outlets, sometimes takes a holiday for a month or so, only to reappear later.

I think the superbike factory system involves leaving bikes until they are so covered in cobwebs that someone takes pity and buys it.

Thousands are at it...can't recall who the ad I posted was.
