I thought I would share some of these with you - from "Billy no Mates" St. David's Day ride!

Nice pics, is that the old petrol station on A40 at Llywel where you turn up onto Eppynt? Went out yesterday with BigAl up to Mike to get his brake fluid changed, could have met somewhere but time got away from us, never mind , maybe another day.

Photographs.

Thanks Adie, I am glad they are appreciated. I'm not trying to use the Wales section as a photogallery, just trying to stimulate a bit more chat- i hope nobody minds- please tell me if its bad form!
Spot on Quick Nick. Wales is full of bike /car photo opportunities, the roads and scenery are superb. We are very lucky!

Very nice pics. How did you PS them, they seem to have a grungy/hyper-real look to them.

Technical jargon

Hi Tunneruk, Nikon 12-24mm on a Nikon D200.
I also use a Leica d lux 6meg compact and shoot in Raw mode.I process three images from each shot and combine them into an HDR file (high dynamic range photography that produces detail in highlight and shadow areas) which I then tonemap to the finished file.
If your interested take a look at this http://www.hdrsoft.com. Its quite time consuming and not very main stream, which is what makes it so appealing- a bit like a GS!

The second one looks like a scale model rather than a life size photo.

Post away the more the merrier.

I'm off out for an hour after lunch.

P.S. Whats the benefit of a RAW pic.
Aha, just for once a question I can answer :bounce1
A raw file uses all tha data from the ccd chip without alterations to tone, exposures, colour balance etc. It has the benefit of being 24bits deep rather than 16 bits like a jpeg. Although you can't display 24bits on a monitor, it does let you make adjustments to the exposure and colour balance after you take the shot. You usually get a few extra pixels too.

The advantages of shooting RAW files.

Exactly right.
The advantage in laymans terms is simply the ability to later, (after taking the photograph, back on the computer) process the RAW file and adjust the "exposure" without losing shadow or highlight information (detail).
This usually gives a better exposed image than relying on the camera at the time of shooting.
I take a slightly more involved route when producing HDR images.
With high dynamic range photography I process 3 images from the same RAW file, usually about 2 stops apart, and combine these into one high dynamic range file, which to be viewed or printed requires a further stage called tonemapping. Different settings in tonemapping produces different results, from natural looking images to highly artificial dramatic effects.

Nice Pics, loved to have gone for a spin but was up in mikes having my annual
service. Can you use a Nikon 300mm F2.8 auto focus with a new D40 camera.

Al

I'm not sure Al.You can use most Nikon lenses, even very old ones with digital cameras. Of course you may not get 100% functionality. I can use my pre digital 50mm standard lens on a D200, which makes a "fast" f1.8 (wide aperture} portrait lens due to the smaller chip size, with a really nice small depth of field.

Thanks for that, I have an array of Nikon equipment and was considering buying
a D40 body and std lens, Iwas hoping that the lens's would work befor commiting
o the purchase.
