Here is what happens when it's dark, just started to rain and you reach for the MODE button at 117km per hour but hit the STOP button instead...

Not much. The ABS light comes on. Cruise control turns off. Twist the throttle and she's right, mate. Could have been worse.

By "stop button" do you mean the kill switch aka engine stop switch? And if so, am I understanding you to say that twisting the throttle re-starts the motor? Sorry if I seem a bit dim here.

Yes, the kill switch.

I was intending to switch to rain mode but hit the wrong switch by not paying attention. It's not exactly clear to me when the motor restarted. I felt the cruise control turn off then I looked down, saw the ABS light on, thought "I'm still on the bike. That's no bad thing", twisted the throttle and kept riding. I was surprised how little disruption there was. BMW got this right: it is apparently idiot proof.

Why would you need to slow down when you have a rain mode???

Very interesting? On my (US spec) bike, the kill switch has a hard click into position and stays there. Did you click it back into the run position or did the electronics just magically deal with things?

Mine is the same clicks in to permanent off which you have to click / switch back in to on. but UK Bike so I assume they are all the same.

Just ducked outside to check and mine is a hard switch too, at least while stationary with the ignition off.

Perhaps someone can recreate my situation and tell me the answer: I am not game to do it again on purpose. Get a on a freeway (motorway to the English imperialists), drive at 117km (you figure it out in your Luddite miles) then hit the STOP button. Let me know how that turns out for you.
