Hi, looking for some suggestions guys. Group of us planning to go to France end of November for 4 days riding. Of course I was thinking head for the glorious mountain twisties and reminded myself of potential for snow / ice at altitude this time of year. So, heading from Cherbourg or Calais where can people recommend? Loire valley? or keep it up around the Ardennes? Really we're looking for a quality ride. If anyone can help that would be fantastico!:D

Thanks for that Steve. the brittany trip looks great, and the others do give us something to think about. Much appreciated and will let you knowwhat we decide on. I also may aswell let you know this is part of a group going from Alaska to southerly tip of Chile in 2005..a slightly bigger run!

You don't even need to go far. Normandy has some great riding roads and very little chance of snow :D

Check out one of my sites VisitNormandy.org

You'll find a routes section (although I have only one route there, just a bit of lack of time at tis moment), which will give you an idea of some of the great roads.

Right... I'm off to ride some of the roads... weather is fantastic today !

.

Depends how far you're willing to travel. 4 days doesn't give you much time to get all the way down here. Anyway, all of the mountain passes closest to here are now closed until after the spring, though the coast roads are blissfully free of tourist traffic. Other than that, Normandy/Brittany are good, the Auvergne, and the Cevennes are superb for biking and unlikely to see snow just yet.
I've just come back from an hour and a half blast, and did the return leg to the office without my jacket as it's so warm today....tut tut. T-shirst and bikes eh??:P
For my moneys worth, if you only have 4 days, stay north around Brittany, visit Pte du Raz and Dournanez and have moules in Le val Andre....I'll see if I can dig up the name of the best seafood restaurant I've ever been to...

Bon route..../Rob

p.s. remember these feckin French 24hour petrol stations don't take UK bank cards...So, fill up on Saturday.

Get an early off and blast down to the Lot/Southern Massif Central. Unpopulated, great roads, should be half decent weather ( an old adage of South of the Loire for decent weather)
Look on Alisdair Sawdays website...special places to stay....and pick some awesome b and b's...chateaux...knights templars abodes etc...£15 a night b and b....

Early starts mean early ferries which means cheaper prices.
