OK guys what is it ?

My computer keeps disconnecting

is it the router Belkin 54

or NTL, because im totally p ss d off with it and going get really angry with someone who should it be?

Do i return the Belkin ?

Or change from NTL ?
:spitfire

plug the NTL modem directly into one PC only - if it still disconnects - there's your answer.

my problem is my D-link router - i just plug/unplug the power cord to reset

yeah

ok ive just done that,
plugged in direct ,no connection

Plugged into router reconnected

in the next few mins it will possibly loose connection

sitting right next to router and holding connection on computer downstairs,
i loose conection when upstairs,is that the problem.
Do i need to relocate my router to gain a better signal upstairs?

have you tried changing the wifi channel? If a neighbour is using the same channel you might be getting some interference

When l upgraded to 10MB on NTL l kept looseing connection so went back to 2MB all ok now. No router involved.

It wouldn't hurt you to change from NTL anyway, all I've ever heard about them is problem after problem.
Although seeing as you are only getting the problem when you go upstairs it could well be a signal issue.
If possible try re-locating your router.
Also as has already been suggested; try changing the channel your wifi is using (this can normally be done via the admin section of your router). I had to change my wifi from channel 11 to channel 1 as our microwave interfered with the signal whenever it was on
Also check for updated drivers for the wireless card you are using in your PC/Laptop. You can also check for updated firmware for your router on Belkin's site.
When you are upstairs click on Start, then go to 'Connect To' and choose 'Wireless Network Connection' This should then display a screen that will tell you your signal strength if this appears poor then yes it is definately a signal issue

Set laptop up down stairs right next to router it has disconnected twice in the last 30 mins with signal strength at excellant. Pulled data cable out of router and connected direct to l/top , no connection , reconnected to router pulled power lead out for 10 sec and then plugged it in, wireless re connected. will try changing wifi channel, can you give me an idea how to do this.

What model is you Belkin router? If you let me know that I shall be able to write instructions down on specifically how to do it. Without the model I can give you a basic idea on how to do it:

Open up Internet Explorer and go to your router's configuration page (this is generally done by typing one of the following addresses in: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.2.1 or http://192.168.8.1)
Then login, the username and password to do this is normally Admin Admin.
Now what you will be looking for is the wireless settings area (without knowing the model of your router I'm not entirely sure where this will be) When you have found it there should fairly clearly be an option to change which channel the wifi is running on. Remember you can choose any channel between 1 and 11.

As I say, if you let me know your router model I will be able to write some more clear and concise instructions for you :)

Thanks for your time Jamie,

Belkin G 2.4Ghz-802.11g
model F5D7230-4

Sorry I haven't replied sooner Shane.
OK, now you need to open up Internet Explorer and go to http://192.168.2.1.
Leave the password box empty and click on Submit.
Now on the left hand side of the screen under the heading 'Wireless' you will see 'Channel and SSID' click it.
From within here you should now be able to choose which channel you wish to have your wifi running on.
Apply / Save any changes you make and then restart your wireless laptop.

It is advised that you make these changes using a PC / Laptop that is plugged straight into your router as you will loose connection to the wireless network for a very short amount of time (we're only talking a few seconds) as it changes which channel it is broadcasting on.
If something of the above doesn't seem to be working let me know and I shall try to assist further :)
