Number Plate Holder

Hi,

Is there an issue with the standard rear number plate/reflector/indicator assembly falling off the XChallenge? If so what's the cause and what's the fix? I'd like to retain the standard assembly if possible.

Apologies in advance as I'm sure if this problem exists then it has been discussed before, but I can't find a thread.

No problems that i am aware off, when i bought mine it had an Ran G tail tidy fitted which whilst it looked good it didnt stop the elements, i re-fitted the origional and have used the bike off road extensivley without any problems.

Check the bolts regularly

Main problem is that if you subject the airshock to excessive loading (weight, too fast offroad, insufficient air in shock, too heavy a rider) the rear tyre can catch the numberplate & holder and rip it off

Main fixes are to fit a Tail Tidy (R&G, TT, Wunderlich etc) - however whilst this solves one problem it also creates another...................too much mud gets thrown up onto the seat and the riders back, not helped by lack of sidepanel near the fuel filler

I've 'invested' in an Ohlins shock which I'll fit over Xmas, and I'll keep an eye on the screws.

Lack of a panel on the RHS I plan to address with the Touratech number plate.

By the way I've also noticed a lot of water being thrown up from the front wheel. Is that the TT extension on your bike JohnnyBoxer? Does it work?

It is and about the only thing that does on the OEM Mudguard...................blooming expensive though

The TT mudguard extender works quite well but is bloody expensive for a little bit of plastic.

You also need to think about the rear of the mudguard. The slots that are designed to let air pass through into the radiator also let all the muck from the front wheel through causing the radiator to clog. Unless you only ever ride in completely dry conditions it is better to block the slots off altogether, and extend the rear of the mudguard while you are at it.

i have the acerbis mudguard, whilst better than stock its not great but it does provide a nice gap for storing a spare tube etc under the headlight
