Apologies for the daft questions but I'm just listening to the G.A.A. on R.T.E. & was wondering.

Can anyone play for any county or do you have to be born/live/work there?
If you've played for 1 county can you subsequently play for a different county?
Could you, in theory, play Hurling for 1 county & football for a different county during the same season (i.e. at the same time)?

Thanx in advance. :aidan

Ideally if you where born in Armagh for eg you would play for them but if you subsequently moved to Cork then you could play for them if selected.

As for playing hurling for one county and football for another in the one season I wouldn't be 100 % correct but feel you could if good enough of course :thumb

It's based on the club you play for. The club you play for is based on where you were born/live. If you move home you can move club (and county) or decide to declare your home county as your original one - so move to and play in Galway club but declare to play for Antrim as you were born there.

There are some more flexible rules for weaker hurling counties to try and help the game.

And for a simple review see the GAA 300 page  manual and the several high court cases about which club the kids can play for :nenau

Lol, thanx chaps I really appreciate the information.

I did ask the questions when I did a tour of HQ a few years ago and the tour guide stumbled and mumbled so it's good to get some definitive answers.
Thanx again.
