The Combi boiler has packed up, still got power to it, still got a pilot light but when you switch it on, theres no whooosh and no hot water or rads. Anyone have any ideas before i call in dick turpins relative....the corgi registered plumber!!!

Have you got the installation instructions with it. If you have check the tubes that come from the pressure differential switch pull them off and blow through them they go to a venturi in the flue and the tiny holes in it can become blocked. just make sure everything is turned off before you open it up because when you remove the air chamber cover the boiler can start up.

Have you got pressure in the wet side of the system? Should be a dial somewhere - if not, will stop itself running.
Failing that, has the impeller gone in the actual boiler unit - had it been running noisy or anything of late?
Take it you have tried on full manual mode - to elimanate thermostat probs?

Probably the flue extract fan airflow switch has failed. Holds everything off untill it sees airflow.

Always check the flue first.
Then somewhere in there, there should be some kind of diaphragm switch for the gas inlet, check that, it goes in and out everytime you run the hot water and heating, it gets a lot of use and can stick, if it doesnt click in and out it's stuck, maybe worn, drop on some WD40 to see if it frees it up, but its on the way for sure.
Check your water pressure, you should have two valves, one to bleed off and one to increase water pressure. Check which is which by operating them, and gradually move your pressure up to operating pressure, see if that helps.

Dave, one of the flexible clear hoses allready mentioned may need looking at.I seem to remember that one joins on the fan at the front of the fan body(or the flue) I have had to disconnect the hose and clear the blockage of the hole before.Had to use a small HSS drill bit!

What a great BIKE site, just fixed my boiler for free....all it was was too little water pressure coming in. Switched off, re-pressured, swithced back on and hey presto. I don't like messing with 'gas' stuff so it would have cost me a call out and an hours fannying about, so £200?

So Dave what is reason why the water pressure dropped is it
1 have you bled rads and not filled the system after ?
2 is it still leaking from the pipe outside ? (prv termination) if so problem is not fixed
3 did you fill the water pressure to 1 -1.5 bar or did you fill it higher
4 when the boiler is on does the pressure move over 3 bar ?????

Terry, its always dropped a little pressure over time, never found any leaks nor had any other problems in 12 years, wouldn't be able to afford to pay a heating engineer to come and 'investigate' so have left it alone, might move house, it'd be cheaper

I have the same make of combi boiler, about 10 -12 years old now. I was having similar problems, so signed up to the British Gas service schedule (about £13 per month) and they fixed all the problems for free during the first service. Saved me about £200 in parts and gave me peace of mind that I wont die from cabon monoxide poisoning 
Hope its all ok but I bet theres an air lock now........
